A five minute guided meditation for awakening joy.
Begin by sitting in a comfortable position,
Keeping your back straight but not stiff.
Gently allow your eyes to close or keep them open with a soft unfocused gaze.
Take a few revitalising breaths,
Inhaling through your nose and exhaling out through your mouth.
With each inhalation,
Imagine breathing in the vitality and essence of life itself.
And with every exhalation,
Release any heaviness or density you may be carrying.
Now bring your awareness to the present moment.
The sounds around you,
The feeling of your body,
The miracle of existence unfolding all around you.
Now call to mind a memory or moment when you experienced pure unfiltered joy.
It could be from your childhood or something recent.
Whatever memory brings a warm smile to your heart.
As you stay connected to that joyful memory,
Notice how it feels inside your body.
All the physical sensations of joy arising,
Maybe a sense of lightness,
Openness or effervescence.
Imagine breathing that feeling of joy into every single cell of your being with each inhalation.
Let it spread into every corner and crevice until your entire body is vibrating with joyful aliveness.
Now repeat silently these words,
I am joy,
I am light,
I am radiant peace.
As you continue breathing in the essence of joy,
Now look out through the eyes of this joyful radiant state of being.
See the whole universe pulsing with the same energy.
Everything is a light of boundless joy of existence.
Take one final deep breath,
Allowing the joy to penetrate every fibre of your being.
Anchor this feeling of joy within you.
Slowly bring your awareness back to the room around you while still basking in the afterglow of this joy.
Open your eyes when you're ready,
Moving through the rest of your day with a renewed sense of wonder,
Appreciation and delight.
