This is just one minute on love your inner child.
As we live,
The residues of our experiences become wired into our own nervous system.
And the deepest,
Most fundamental layers were laid down when we were very young.
So it's natural to be affected today by things that have happened to you when you were little.
It's not weak or self-indulgent to acknowledge the impacts on you today even,
The long shadow cast by things that happened many,
Many years ago.
To love your inner child,
It helps to begin with a sense of being cared about by others in ways that are true.
And then also to have a sense of being caring yourself.
And then on the basis of that,
Take some time to really reflect on the life that you've had,
Maybe even year by year by year,
And imagine to yourself what were the effects on you or would have been naturally the effects on another person to whom the same things happened.
And in the process of this reflection,
Stay grounded in a feeling of respect and perspective and justice and caring for the little kid you once were and help the experiences today of being cared about to touch and make contact with and even soothe those younger layers of yourself.
The last thing I'll say is to make room for the kid today,
That little inner goofball.
I know my own version of that really well.
Does your kid want to play?
Can you stand up more for that inner child and the adult that child has become?
And keep both of them close to your heart.
So may you love your inner child.
