Hello and Welcome! In this fun guided children's meditation, Shelli Mermaid from Happy Mermaid Learning joins us again, this time to lead a musical meditation helping with emotional regulation. She uses instruments to symbolize different emotions and blends them to show how nice it is to have balanced emotions. It's playful and fun, yet still educational. The children are encouraged to feel their own emotions and be mindful of any imbalances. We take deep breaths together and listen to the pretty music. Best for children 2-8 years old. Thank you for listening!

Hello and welcome little mermaids and mermen to our emotional symphony meditation.

Shelley Mermaid here.

Today we will explore the beautiful orchestra of our emotions just like the magical melodies of the sea.

Let's begin by finding a comfortable seated position with our backs straight and our hands resting gently on our laps.

Are you there?

Oh good job.

Okay great.

So now close your eyes and take a deep breath in.

Feeling the ocean breeze filling your lungs and breathe out slowly.

Letting go of any worries or cares.

Let's do it again.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Very good.

Now let's imagine that each of your emotions is like a different instrument in our symphony.

Let's pretend that joy is the flute,

Laughter is the violin,

Sadness is the cello,

Anger is the trumpet,

And peace is the harp.

We have so many more emotions but I think that we'll be here for a long time if we name all of them.

This seems like a good amount to start with.

Each instrument is unique and important in the symphony just like each of our emotions is unique and important in us.

Let's start by tuning our emotional orchestra.

Imagine playing each instrument one by one noticing how each sound adds to the beauty of the symphony.

Joyful flute.

Feel joy joy joy.

Playful violin.

Think of something funny.

The soulful cello.

Yeah sometimes we feel like this when we're sad.

The powerful trumpet.

Well that symbolizes anger.

Can you think of how it feels to be angry?

And don't forget the serene harp when you feel nice and at peace.

I really like that one.

I always try to feel that one a lot.

Now let's explore how sometimes our emotions can become unbalanced like when the trumpet plays too loudly or the harp gets overshadowed by the other instruments.

Doesn't sound very good does it?

It's important to acknowledge all of our emotions and find ways of bringing them back into harmony.

It's sort of like they're taking a nice solo and that's okay but you can't solo for the whole show or the band won't sound right.

We want the symphony to sound nice and balanced.

It's important to acknowledge all of our emotions and find ways of bringing them into harmony.

Let's use our breath to help us balance our emotions as you inhale imagine gathering all of your emotions together like colorful musical instruments and as you exhale imagine releasing any extra strong emotions allowing them to flow freely like a beautiful melody.

Did you picture all the pretty musical notes?

I did.

Let's do it again.

Breathe in colorful musical notes and out.

Make sure they're all balanced.

Feel the rhythm of your breath as it moves through your body bringing balance and peace to your emotional symphony.

Breathing just like drums is a really steady way to help make everything nice and balanced.

Remember just like a symphony sounds better with all the instruments playing in harmony we feel our best when all of our emotions are balanced and working together.

Wow that sounds pretty.

That must be what it sounds like when your happiness,

Sadness,

Fear and excitement and all those fun emotions come together.

What a nice song.

It wouldn't be the same without the other instruments would it?

Hey I heard that anger.

Oh and some peace.

There we go.

Oh now we're back to balance.

Sounds like everything's working together.

Amazing.

As we come to the end of our meditation let's take one final deep breath in feeling gratitude for the beautiful symphony of emotions within us and as we breathe out try to feel how your emotional symphony is balanced in your body and mind.

Is there any instrument or emotion taking over?

Do you need to lower the volume of that emotion to feel balanced or maybe bring the volume of some of them up?

Don't forget to breathe.

While you breathe feel your emotions inside you and pretend that they are making the music of your heart.

Great work.

Thank you so much for joining me in our mermaid emotional symphony meditation today.

Remember whenever you feel a strong emotion just like having an instrument taking a solo for a moment but just like the symphony sounds better you'll feel so much better when you remember that all of your emotions are important.

I like balancing out my emotions like this.

How about you?

Will you imagine a violin next time you laugh?

Me too.

Okay take one last big stretch and open your eyes.

Ah great job.

I'll see you next time.
