Details

Mission & Vision In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, The Wild Heart Retreat offers a return to what truly matters. Guided by an artist and musician couple, this 6-day immersive retreat is rooted in the vital life force that fuels love, creativity, and connection: expression. Set against the untouched beauty of the Wild Coast, our vision is to create a sanctuary where people can remember that creativity is not a skill, but a natural way of being. Our mission is simple: to invite you into play, presence, and flow, where art, nature, and relationship become pathways back to wholeness. Retreat Details For five years, we have returned to this magical coastline to retreat, create, and renew ourselves. These journeys have nourished our partnership and inspired the community and life we have built in Cape Town. Now we are ready to share this practice with others. The Wild Heart Retreat is designed for anyone feeling stuck, overworked, burnt out, or simply longing for more creativity and aliveness. You do not need to be an artist, only willing to play, explore, and open to the possibility of life as art. Through guided improvisation, movement, sound, storytelling, intuitive painting, and deep encounters with the land and sea, you will be invited into presence and creative flow. At its heart, this retreat is about relationality: listening deeply, co-creating moments of magic, and remembering what it feels like to be truly connected, to yourself, to others, and to the living world. Come as you are. Leave renewed, expanded, and alive with your Wild Heart.

The accommodation is simple and soulful. The houses are rustic and down-to-earth, carrying a hippie charm that invites you to let go of formality and settle into ease. They are not polished or professional in the usual sense, but their quaint, informal character makes them feel intimate and welcoming, like a friend's home in the countryside. The houses are loose-standing, and the social areas are roofed but with open sides - so we will be gathering under the stars. Here you'll find space to slow down and enjoy the beauty of living simply.

Cooking and hosting are at the heart of Nicolene and Thabo's life together. For the past seven years, they have welcomed friends and family around generous tables, sharing their love of South African food. At the retreat, guests can look forward to the same warmth and abundance: comforting home-cooked meals, some of their favourite recipes, and plenty of braaiing, the South African tradition of barbecue, over open flames. From seafood pots to rustic spreads, each meal is crafted to nourish and bring people together. We happily cater to special dietary needs if requested in advance, ensuring there is something delicious for everyone.

Schedule

Without spoiling all the surprises, here is something to tease your excitement. Note that this program is subject to change at any point, as we like to stay open to spontaneity and the capacity of our guests. • Silent mornings • Visualisation Meditation Journeys • Journaling• Brunch • Nature adventure • Afternoon snack & rest • Creative Workshop • Local Dinner • Group Expression Session (improvised application of the afternoon workshop) Creativity is not something that can be pushed or harvested from an empty cup. We believe deeply in rejuvenation, restoration, and rest at The Wild Heart Retreat. While we've designed a rich and nurturing program, there will be ample time for restful reflection. In the spirit of flow, which is both the theme and energetic imprint we hope to leave you with, you have complete agency to choose which program items resonate with you. If you decide to join none of the scheduled activities and simply immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery, nature, meals, and quiet moments of reflection with us, that would be absolutely perfect. We are here to teach you the gentle art of showing up with exactly what you have and engaging with your creativity from a place of fullness, not depletion.

This was my first time at the Wild Coast in South Africa, and its untouched beauty completely struck me. I really enjoyed the drumming circles and the opening of the voice workshops. Our hosts, Thabo and Nicolene, had a warm and grounding presence. I will be attending again in the near future!

Nicolene's work has completely changed how I (and later my co-founder and also my whole team) relate to creativity and work. I felt like I was stuck in old patterns that resulted in mounting stress, inability to create and a feeling of emptiness and demotivation. Throwing myself into only a handful of sessions with Nicolene and then the retreat, has left me in a place of great access to my creative energy, having work feel in flow with the rest of my life, affecting not only what I create and how I feel when I create but also transforming relationships that sit well outside my "creative life", like family, friends and partner. I recommend her to anybody I deeply care about: Here is your little life course correction.

Thank you for reaching out! I am so well and have been diving back into podcasting since our retreat. Thank you again for the wonderful experience. I have here the review you asked for. I wish you two so much success with this incredible offering: I joined the Wild Heart Retreat at a time when I was feeling quite stuck and uninspired. I didn’t go because I thought of myself as an artist, but because I wanted to reconnect with a sense of aliveness. The experience turned out to be deeply restorative. Nicolene and Thabo are generous and intuitive facilitators. They bring humour and lightness to what could otherwise be heavy emotional work, creating an atmosphere that feels both playful and profound. The rhythm of the retreat was perfect. There was plenty of time to rest, wander in nature, and let the creative energy come naturally rather than being forced. The accommodation was simple and earthy, which matched the environment beautifully. Most of my time was spent outdoors, listening to the birds, swimming, or simply sitting under a tree. I even saw hornbills and otters, which felt like small miracles. Much love, Jana

Attending this retreat was one of the most nourishing experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived on the Wild Coast, surrounded by untouched nature, I felt myself begin to soften and unwind. The facilitators held such a warm, grounded space that it felt easy to let go of daily pressures and drop into presence. Each session, from movement and meditation to creative expression, invited a deeper connection with myself and others. The food was wholesome and made with love, the setting wild and beautiful, and the people genuine and kind. I left feeling open, inspired, and creatively reawakened, with a sense of clarity and calm that I’ve carried home with me.

The poetry workshops cracked something open in me. I came expecting a retreat, but what I found was a remembering. Each session felt like a doorway into the hidden corners of language that live inside the body. We wrote, spoke, sang, and sometimes just breathed together. There was no pressure to perform, only an invitation to listen more closely to what wanted to be said. By the end, my words felt less like mine and more like something wild moving through me. I left with pages full of poems and a heart that finally felt heard.

Alona Gorak, Ukrainian

It's so good to hear from you. Thank you for asking about my classes. It has been going well, and I am sure it is because I have reconnected to my creative practice again after being held so tenderly by you and Nicolene. I gladly write you this review: When I think back on the Wild Heart Retreat, what stands out most isn’t one single activity or workshop, but the feeling of time stretching open. For the first time in months, maybe years, I wasn’t rushing toward anything. The sea, the hills, the long walks, everything seemed to conspire to slow me down. Nicolene and Thabo have a rare way of creating space where you can simply be yourself. There was no pressure to perform or even to “heal.” It was more like being gently invited back into rhythm with life. Some afternoons were spent swimming, while others were spent lying on the grass with new friends, talking about things that really mattered, and then there were the accessible sessions and workshops that just brought play right back into my life in such an easy way. I remember laughing a lot. The place itself feels ancient and alive. At night, the stars were impossibly bright, and in the mornings, I’d wake to birdsong. The food was abundant, full of warmth, and made with care. There’s something about sitting by the fire after a long day, eating together, that makes you feel human again. I left with a quiet sense of clarity, not the kind that comes from trying to figure things out, but the kind that arrives when you finally stop trying. If you’re craving simplicity, beauty, and genuine connection, this retreat will meet you there. I hope the next group is as awesome as we were! Hehe Lots of love, Olivia

I came to the retreat thinking I would do every session and practice, but once I arrived, the land itself asked me to slow down. The hosts reminded us that rest is also a form of participation, and I took that to heart. I spent long afternoons lying under the trees, listening to the river and watching hornbills in the branches. Sometimes I sat out of workshops, and instead just let myself breathe and be. It turned out to be exactly what I needed. By the end of the week, I felt deeply restored, as if nature had quietly rewritten my rhythm.
