Hello and welcome.
Today's meditation is on connecting with your higher self.
And for this meditation,
You'll probably want a journal or some paper and a pen nearby,
Just in case you have some ideas or thoughts that you want to write down.
There's no way in particular that I think meditation should be done in terms of posture or eyes closed,
Eyes open,
Things like that.
But for today's meditation,
We'll be working very strongly with the idea of the body as a central axis and conduit for the energy that runs between earth and the heavens.
So if it's comfortable for you to take a seated posture,
I would suggest that for today's meditation.
If sitting is uncomfortable for you,
Please feel free to make whatever arrangements you need to make and find some way to provide contact to your tailbone.
So if you're lying down,
Then you might just bring a pillow underneath your thighs so that you can have a little bit of contact towards the base of your spine.
If you're sitting up,
You can easily use your hands just to palpate the base of your spine when I cue your awareness there.
Same if you're moving around or something like that.
Personally,
I have a lot of pain in my legs.
Personally,
I'm sitting with crossed legs and I have a pillow under my seat.
I have the pillow under my seat so that my hips are a little bit higher than my knees.
This helps to maintain an erect and upright spine as I sit.
So if you're sitting along with me,
Then please make sure that you have whatever you need underneath your seat so that you don't have any pain on your tailbone.
Also,
It feels like you have some support to sit upright and not go into a slump posture or fight against a slump posture.
So if you're sitting in a chair with a back on it,
Again if it's comfortable for you,
You might want to just roll a towel and take it underneath the back part of your seat just to provide a little bit of tilt for your pelvis.
I find that if I can easily have a little bit of curve in my low back or my lumbar spine,
Then it's easy for me to lift upright through my chest and my head.
So please make whatever adjustments you need,
Get your pen and paper,
And when you're ready we'll begin.
So let's begin by calling attention to the breath.
And I'll invite the first couple of breaths in to pass in through my nose on the inhale and through my mouth on the exhale.
As I breathe in through my nose,
I'm noticing the sensation of breath,
The movement of air that passes through my nose,
The movement of air that passes into my nostrils,
And the feeling of breath as it comes into my skull.
I'm noticing how my lungs receive my breath and blossom and expand out,
And I'm feeling where my breath naturally moves,
Not really trying to force it into any one place,
But noticing which part of my lungs naturally want to fill and easily fill as I inhale.
As I exhale through my mouth,
I'm allowing a gentle sighing to come out,
And sometimes I like to let my voice make a tone when I sigh out,
And you might enjoy that as well.
And on my exhales,
I'm feeling the relaxation of the front wall of my abdomen,
And I'm enjoying the sensation of a kind of subtle release in my nervous system that the exhale can initiate.
And now I'll start to work a little bit more intentionally with the breath.
So I'm going to invite us to bring the first part of the inhale into the belly,
And then the second part of the inhale into the chest.
And this inhale can be a smooth inhale,
So as you inhale,
It's kind of like filling a glass with water,
And the first part of your breath can move into the expansion of your tummy,
And then the second part of your breath can move into the expansion of your chest.
And then as you exhale,
Just feel free to exhale everything out.
Invite awareness into your body of the three-dimensionality of your breath,
The way that your breath can move into your front part of your belly,
Into your sides,
And also into your back body.
And I'll invite us to maintain this kind of breathing throughout the meditation,
And so again the breathing is gentle,
There's no place in it that needs to be forced.
There's no need for a full breath to be anything in particular,
So a full breath,
One round of breath might be a really deep inhale into your belly and chest,
And a full breath the next inhale might be almost a shallow breath or a breath that feels very subtle.
Please don't force breath into your body,
There's no need to feel like you're inflating a balloon or anything like that,
But as much as possible just try and maintain this rhythm of breathing that allows your breath to come in through your nose,
Into your belly,
Into your chest,
And then to exhale out your mouth,
Letting your whole exhale release from your body.
And I'll continue to cue us into our awareness of the breath,
But also continue to cue yourself.
So at any point you can always just bring attention back to your breath.
If the guidance of the meditation ever loses you at any point,
Just keep coming back to your breath.
If you get distracted,
Come back to the breath,
Etc.
So now as we breathe,
Let's start to imagine an aura beginning to emanate out from the body into kind of a spherical or an egg-shaped container around your body.
And there may be a color that you imagine for this aura.
I imagine mine as kind of a pearlescent,
Like all colors contained in a glowing shimmering kind of light.
You might have a specific color that feels really nourishing or protective to you.
So as you breathe,
Can you imagine that there's a growing and strengthening aura around you and that this aura of light is your pure essence and it's also a protective container around you.
So anything that occurs within the meditation,
Any energy that you open or that you open to,
We invite in clarity,
Healing,
And guidance for our best benefit.
And then we invite you to come back to the breath.
And we ask that this meditation serve our healing and serve the elevation of our consciousness and serve the highest good for all of existence.
Okay now so from within your aura,
From within your kind of protective bubble,
Imagine yourself in whatever shape you're in.
Imagine your body now.
And imagine the shape of your body,
Imagine the external container of your skin,
The way that you see yourself.
Feel your inner body relaxing within your skin.
And then from somewhere very deep inside of your body,
Kind of from a very central place,
Can you imagine a kind of anchor dropping down through the base of your spine?
And then from somewhere very deep inside of your body,
Kind of from a very central place,
Can you imagine a kind of anchor dropping down through the base of your spine?
And that anchor is going to release out and down and it might extend all the way down into the center of the earth.
And if you're still imagining yourself contained within your aura or your bubble,
Now it might be kind of like a balloon.
So that aura is anchored in its connecting root all the way down to the center of the earth.
And this is where I really want to invite attention and awareness into the tailbone.
And as much as possible try and relax the muscles around your pelvic floor and your bum and feel that the root of your seat is connecting easily into whatever support is underneath you.
And that from the very center of your body you can let your awareness travel down through as many layers,
As many floors or foundations of building or layers within the earth itself to get to the very center of the earth,
Which of course is fire.
We're going to imagine that our bodies are connected right into the heart of the earth.
And now through this connection,
Through this anchor,
You can visualize the earth's pure energy,
Its pure heat coming all the way up through your root,
Through your connecting stock,
And into the center of your body.
And from the center you're breathing in and out.
So as you inhale into your belly and into your chest you might feel that earth energy growing and expanding in your body.
And then as you exhale you might feel how that heat and energy emanates from inside of your body all the way around you into this protective aura.
As we imagine this connection to earth and as we call upon the energy of earth to come fill our bodies and to radiate out into our conscious awareness,
Let's also remember that our bodies themselves are very temporary.
There have been billions and billions and billions of bodies alive on the earth throughout its entire existence.
We can't ever know how many.
And each of our bodies will be in existence for such a short period of time.
But the earth's particles,
Its materials,
Have been forming and reforming forever since the birth of our cosmos.
And the forming of the earth itself is still in process.
Our earth is not a stagnant or inert phenomena.
It is a growing,
Living,
Evolving being.
And so as you remind yourself of this truth,
I'd like to invite all of us to on our exhales release our earthly identities.
And so as you breathe in and imagine the fire of the earth coming right into your belly and into your core,
As you exhale and feel that heat emanate out from within to around you,
Can you imagine everything that you hold as yourself,
Your name,
Your race,
Your age,
Your gender,
The ideas about yourself,
Your job titles,
Your family rules?
Can you imagine all of those concepts just dissolving like smoke,
Like vapor,
Knowing that the materials of your body will continue in existence far after your identity has ceased to exist?
That the consciousness within yourselves has been in process and formation as long as the earth has been in process and in formation.
And that this consciousness will continue to evolve even after your individual consciousness has changed,
Has moved on from your identity.
As I imagine this,
I'm imagining some pictures that I've seen of the sun,
Artist representations of what the kind of crust of the sun must look like.
And this way that the kind of radiant heat from the center of the sun bursts out and that there are places on the surface that may be slightly cool and they are starting to form some kind of crust and then this blast of heat will come through it and it will melt again.
And so I'm imagining that kind of texture and essence in my skin in the most external layer of my being.
And as I'm breathing out,
I'm joyfully releasing attachment to my name and to all of my ideas about myself,
To all of the aspects of me that form this existence,
This human existence.
I'm imagining my body dissolving into pure light,
Into pure radiance.
Again this kind of pearlescent,
All colors contained in eminence.
And I'm imagining this eminence radiating out into the field around me.
Notice if your attention is still at least partially in your breath.
Are you still continuing to breathe?
Continue with these visualizations and just again bring a little bit of felt sense awareness into your tailbone so that you're still attached towards the earth.
And then let's imagine that the head or the crown area of our auras is starting to open.
And the energy that we've been cultivating,
Drawing up from the earth,
This kind of growing eminence and radiance pushing outward and inward starts to get directed up towards the crown.
And so still breathing,
Still feeling your inhales come into your belly,
Come into your chest.
As you inhale,
Imagining drawing upwards from the source,
The center of the earth.
As you exhale through your mouth,
Still feeling your belly relax and imagining that your exhales are a 360 degree eminence radiating all the way around you.
And that eminence is starting to thrust upwards,
Be compelled upwards towards the sky.
If it feels challenging to bring awareness into your head and into your crown,
You can really lightly use your fingertips to touch kind of the center of your forehead,
A little bit between your eyebrows and above the base of your nose,
And at the same time use the other hand to bring a very soft touch to the back of the head.
And then you can move your hands to either side of your skull,
Right on the top of the skull,
And to the left and the right sides really lightly touch the top of the skull.
And then this should be enough just to bring a little bit of felt sense,
Palpation,
And awareness into the skull.
You can probably release your hands and you may be able to now have a continuation of that felt sense that brings attention into your head.
And you're welcome to keep your hands there for longer,
Keep coming back to that touch in at any point.
So as we feel the crown opening and this movement now of our own energy starting to be directed up and out towards the heavens,
Let's also imagine what we know that our earth is contained in the sphere of its own atmosphere,
And that beyond the the winds of the earth's atmosphere,
There lies an infinity of space.
And we know that the universe is constantly expanding and we know that most of it is a total mystery.
We know that there are energetic patterns within the universe and that these patterns are relationship and cohesion of some kind.
That our solar system is also radiating around a greater force,
Just as the earth radiates around the central force of our sun,
The sun radiates around the central force of the galactic center.
And there may be thousands and billions of other universes through the black hole at the center of our galaxy.
So let's consider now that our consciousness,
Whatever the spark of life is that animates our bodies,
That brings awareness into them,
Is an unexplainable energy,
An energetic phenomena,
Perhaps called a spirit,
Perhaps called a soul.
For now let's call it our higher selves.
And let's consider that this energy is timeless.
It has always existed.
It will always exist.
Our higher selves as part of a larger consciousness of our universe and the untold universes that are birthing and dying and forming and swirling,
That our higher selves are also in a state of evolution.
And let's call in connection.
So from the crown,
From the head,
Imagine that your consciousness is opening and you can actively call in connection with your higher self.
And it may feel interesting or necessary to say something out loud.
For me,
As I feel into my crown,
I want to speak out loud that I'm inviting connection now with my higher self,
With the eternal wisdom that is contained within me.
Some bodily sensations I notice as I start to open to this invitation,
A feeling of moving up and though I can still feel my body,
There's also a sense that I'm lifting out of my body.
I'm noticing a rush of heat through my body.
I'm noticing that my breath feels more and more effortless.
So when you feel ready,
Consider directing a question to your higher self.
There may be a really important question that you've been holding or sitting with and that might be the question that you choose to speak.
If you need to think about it too hard,
Then let it go and just use the question that I'll suggest instead.
So whatever you offer,
Try and stay in this kind of embodied awareness rather than getting too far into your head or into language.
And if you don't have a question of your own that's easily coming,
Then let's simply ask to our higher selves,
What do I need to know?
What do I need to know?
And for the next couple of minutes,
I'll be quiet and you'll just hear the bowls and continue to to be in your meditation.
So all of the imagery that we've been working with,
Your breath,
This feeling of opening through your crown and just asking your higher self,
What do I need to know?
Or asking your higher self the question that you're holding.
And then get your pen and paper and just write whatever occurs to you.
Don't try and mediate it,
Don't try and edit it,
Don't doubt it as you're writing it,
Just write down whatever occurs to you and it will take about five minutes.
So so so so so so so so so so if you'd like to take more time with this writing and connecting,
Then just pause the recording and take as much time as you need.
If you're ready to come back,
Then put your pen and paper down and come back to your meditation.
And just as we imagined an anchor from the center of our bodies connecting down to the center of the earth,
Let's now imagine a tether from the center of our bodies moving up and out to connection with what we imagine as our higher selves.
At the moment,
I'm seeing my higher self similar to how I'm seeing my aura,
So it's a kind of shimmery ball of light.
You might see your higher self as a body,
As a being of some kind,
Whatever you're imagining that's fine for now,
It might change at some point.
Remember that our higher selves are capable of everything and anything.
So let's imagine that tether and then let's imagine once more this aura around us.
So I'm seeing the container of my own aura around me and the container feels somewhat soft.
It doesn't feel like a hard container,
But it also feels like it has a clear boundary to it as well.
This is my space,
My own energy,
And from my own energy,
I'm connecting down to the source of energy at the earth and I'm connecting up to the source of consciousness,
My higher self.
And then let's offer gratitude.
And so we can offer gratitude through the anchors into the earth and offer gratitude for the abundance on this earth realm and all the lessons that we learn through our bodies and the exquisite beauty of this planet.
We can offer gratitude to our higher selves,
Offering gratitude simply for existing,
Offering gratitude for wisdom,
And if there was any connection at all,
Even if you're not sure if it was a connection,
Even if you doubt it,
Just offer gratitude for at least the idea of connection.
And let's offer prayers for strengthening our connections.
We can breathe into intention to strengthen our connection to the earth,
Our connection as embodied beings to this earth plane,
Our intention to connect more fully with our higher selves,
And any desires we have for those connections,
Desires to be of service to the earth,
To other beings on earth,
To the healing of the traumas and the suffering on earth,
To the evolution of consciousness on earth,
Breathing into our desires for strengthening connection with our higher selves,
We're becoming more and more aligned and attuned to our highest potential and our highest purpose as spiritual sacred beings living in earthly bodies,
Offering any other prayers or gratitudes or intentions that you might have to your higher self,
To the earth,
To any other beings that you might feel are around you.
And then in a very simple way,
Let's just thank these connections for opening as much as they may have,
Even if it was just a tiny bit through our imaginations during this meditation.
Thank you.
And we trust that this practice of meditating,
Of feeling into these connections,
Of imagining into these connections,
That there is value even in the practice.
And then if your eyes have been closed as you're ready,
Allow your eyes to open.
And as your eyes start to take in visual information,
Can you stay in attendance to this sensation of anchor to the earth and tether to your higher self?
Can you stay in attendance to your own breath and to the eminence and the radiance of your energy within and around you?
Thank you for practicing this meditation with me.
I hope it's been interesting to you.
I want to say that this kind of meditation for me feels very much like a practice most of the time.
Sometimes I have really profound and expansive insights and sensations that come in,
And other times it's simply calming and pleasant,
And sometimes it feels frustrating and obtuse.
So anywhere along that spectrum that you experience is great.
The more that you practice with this kind of awareness,
The more you'll find your own way with it.
Please feel free to adapt anything that I offer towards visualizations or language or embodiments that are more relevant and useful for you.
I believe that we can connect to our higher intelligence and consciousness,
That we do have spirits,
That our higher selves are actually real,
That these earthly bodies and identities that we have are in some ways experiences of forgetting the true intelligence and energies that we are,
But that also in these earthly bodies and experiences we learn and have capacity to affect others' experiences as well as our own experiences.
In this way we are in states of evolution and the connection between our higher selves and our earthly bodies is part of a constantly evolving consciousness.
I hope that you have felt some of that.
Once again,
Thank you so much for practicing with me.
