Welcome friends,
This is Padma and I have created this guided meditation specially For those who spend their energy caring for others,
Maybe it's aging parents,
Partners,
Children.
Maybe you're a healthcare worker or someone whose days revolve around someone else's needs.
This practice is a space for you to receive care instead of giving it.
So let's take a deep breath.
This is for you.
Not for the person you're caring for.
Not for the next thing to do on your list.
This is not for anyone else.
It's just for you.
To nourish yourself.
And if that feels uncomfortable or selfish,
I invite you to notice that feeling.
And then very gently,
Compassionately.
Set it aside.
You are allowed to need this.
You are allowed to take time for yourself.
So close the eyes.
Let your body settle.
Take a breath that is just for you.
Hmm.
This is not a breath.
That is being used to stay alert or attentive to someone else.
You're not breathing to push through.
This is a breath that says,
I'm here for myself right now.
This breath is for you.
So let's breathe in through the nose.
Take your time.
A nice full breath,
And out through the mouth.
Let the exhale be long.
Like you're releasing something you've been carrying for a long time.
And again,
Breathing in for you.
And out for you.
You spend your days tuned to other people's needs.
Perhaps you listen for sounds in the night.
You monitor moods,
Symptoms,
Emotions,
Schedules.
You anticipate what others need before they know they need it.
You carry the invisible labor of noticing everything.
And perhaps no one notices you noticing.
So right now,
This is for you.
Let yourself be seen.
Notice the tiredness in your body.
Notice the weight in your shoulders.
That feels heavy.
Notice if you push through exhaustion because someone is depending on you.
That I want you to know right now.
You are doing something extraordinary.
You're taking care of yourself.
You're nourishing yourself.
Because the care you give to another is a form of love so deep that it perhaps goes unrecognized even by you.
But love that never refills eventually empties,
And you cannot pour from a vessel that's run dry.
So let's take some time to refill.
Bring your awareness to the top of your head.
Imagine warm water being poured slowly over your crown.
Just feel the sensation of water,
The warmth cascading down.
Feel it move over your forehead,
Softening.
Over your cheeks,
Jaw,
And neck.
Let the warmth dissolve the tension as it travels.
Feel it pour over your shoulders,
Those shoulders that have carried so much,
My friend.
Down your arms,
Which have lifted,
Held,
Supported,
And reached out for others more times than you can count.
And into your hands.
Which have done the work of caring in a thousand little ways.
Just breathing.
Letting the warmth cascade.
Down your back and spine.
Through all the places where stress may have taken up residence.
Down through the hips,
Legs,
And into your feet.
And imagine it pooling beneath you.
Warm and golden.
Holding you from below.
You are being held.
You are being held.
Right now,
In this moment,
You are not holding anyone else.
Something larger than you.
Perhaps it's gravity or the earth or grace is holding you.
So breathe.
And let yourself be held.
So now,
I want you to think about what you need,
Not what someone else needs.
What do you need?
Maybe it's sleep or silence.
Maybe it's a conversation with someone who asks about you.
And truly listens.
Maybe it's permission to feel angry or sad or overwhelmed without any guilt.
Whatever it is,
Let it surface.
Don't judge it or dismiss it as impossible or selfish.
Just name it quietly to yourself.
Your feelings make sense.
Your needs are valid.
Your needs are as real.
And as important as the needs of the person you care for.
You matter.
You matter in this equation.
You have always mattered in this equation.
So breathe it in.
Breathe it in.
And silently say.
.
.
I deserve care too.
Breathe out,
And again,
Silently say,
I deserve care too.
This is not arrogance.
This is the simple truth that creates sustainable caregiving.
You are not a bottomless well.
You are a human being.
And you need care and attention.
Now.
Think of one small thing you could do for yourself today.
Not next week.
Not when things calm down.
Today.
Maybe it's five minutes alone,
Sipping a hot cup of tea.
Or a walk around the block.
Maybe.
It's you saying no to one thing.
Or perhaps it's you asking for help.
With one thing.
Maybe it's going to bed 15 minutes earlier.
Whatever comes to mind.
Hold it as an intention.
In your mind and in your heart.
And breathe.
So you don't have to earn rest by collapsing first.
You don't have to justify self-care with burnout.
You can take care of yourself while you take care of others.
In fact.
That's the only way this works.
In the long term.
So take three more gentle breaths.
With each one.
Imagine filling your own cup.
Slowly,
Gently.
With warmth,
Kindness,
And compassion.
You are not taking from anyone else by doing this.
You are ensuring you have something left to give.
Take your time breathing and filling your cup.
You matter.
You deserve.
Time,
Space,
Love,
And compassion.
And when you're ready.
Very gently and slowly begin to wiggle your fingers and toes.
And let your eyes flutter open.
The needs of others will still be there.
It's all yours.
And today.
You can let both matter equally.
Thank you so much for practicing with me.
I invite you to return to this meditation again and again.
And if it feels right.
Try doing it for seven days consecutively.
Many blessings to you.
Many blessings to you.
