Welcome to this winter solstice meditation.
We are so often accustomed to associating darkness with negativity or even evil.
However,
The natural world instinctively understands that there must be seasons of darkness and light and this season of winter darkness brings with it an opportunity to rest,
Be still and notice what is going on around us and in us.
In this meditation,
We will welcome in the darkness and rest in the stillness and silence.
We will enjoy the fallowness of this time of year as a time of preparation for the light and life which will inevitably come to us when spring appears.
Now pause,
Breathe in,
Hold the breath,
Exhale and let's begin.
Find a comfortable position either seated or lying down and close your eyes.
Bring your attention to your breathing,
Noticing its gentle rise and fall.
As you sit or lie in stillness,
Notice how with a little intention,
There is a peaceful stillness available within you whenever you choose to access it.
It is from this stillness that creativity and action flow.
It is in honoring this stillness and choosing to spend time being still and quiet that we increase our capacity to access our intuition,
Our inner wisdom and creativity and we actually expand our capacity for work,
Activity and good ideas.
Stillness is the birthplace of creativity.
Now repeat after me out loud or in your mind.
I honor the darkness within me.
I embrace stillness and silence.
I honor the natural rhythms of my body.
I welcome the opportunity to pause and reflect.
Taking a deep breath,
Bring your attention to the center of your abdomen.
Visualize a small bright flame burning here.
Place into the flame.
Feel its light and its warmth at the center of your being,
Surrounded by darkness but not overcome by it.
This is your inner power.
As you breathe in this stillness for the next few minutes,
Focus your attention on this light at the center of your being.

It's time to release the visualization and return to the present moment.
Take a deep breath in and hold it at the top.
Feel the stillness and peace you have just accessed filling your body and exhale with a sigh.
