Take a journey through the seasons experiencing the changes that occur to a mountain and draw parallels to what happens in our own lives. Even in adversity, the mountain stands tall and strong knowing that everything will change and pass and the same can be said for us.

Mountain Meditation Just begin by finding a comfortable position that best suits you.

That can be sitting upright in a chair with your hands resting gently on your thighs or knees.

Or it could be lying flat either on a mat or in your bed.

There is no right or wrong way to do this.

So just find a position that is easiest for you.

And begin by taking some deep breaths.

In and out.

And then picture in front of you a mountain.

This could be a mountain that you know very well.

Perhaps a mountain that you visited or even climbed.

It could be a mountain that you've seen a picture of or just a mountain from your imagination.

But as you stand in front of the mountain,

Really notice what it looks like.

Notice how tall it is.

And if it has a single peak or several.

Notice whether your mountain is rocky and barren.

Or whether it's lush with vegetation.

Notice how tall and strong your mountain is.

Notice the slopes of the mountain.

And the firm base that it stands on.

And as you stand in front of your mountain.

It almost seems as though you become part of the mountain.

The base is your feet and your legs standing tall and strong.

And the sides of the mountain are your shoulders and arms sloping downwards.

The top of the mountain is your head.

And stand as part of the mountain.

Feeling tall and strong and grounded.

And it's summertime on the mountain.

You can feel the warm sun beating down.

The birds are singing.

The mountains in full bloom.

Beautiful flowers and shrubs.

Perhaps even small gentle waterfalls or streams.

And people visit the mountain.

They come to spend time in its beauty.

They come to enjoy its peace.

They come to enjoy its wisdom.

And the mountain stands tall and strong.

And then storm clouds gather on the mountain.

It's hot in the summer.

And suddenly the air is lit up with lightning.

The distant rumble of thunder gets closer and closer.

And the first drops of rain start to fall.

Gently at first.

And then harder until the mountain is pounded by the warm summer rain.

And yet the mountain stands tall and strong.

Knowing that this will pass.

And it does pass.

As the air changes,

It becomes a little cooler.

The first signs of autumn appear.

Beautiful colours from the trees.

Reds,

Gold.

Deep browns,

Light browns.

And the first touch of frost appears.

The air is cool and crisp.

The mountain stands tall and strong.

Accepting the change.

And knowing that it will change again.

And then it gets even colder on the mountain.

The wind and the rain appear battering the mountain.

The mountain stands tall and strong.

As the wind howls and the rain beats down.

Cold and icy.

And then the rain turns to snow.

The first flutter of a snowdrop begins to gently fall down.

Soon the mountain is covered in a beautiful white coat.

The silence is hardly broken at all.

Perhaps the odd bird passing.

And then people visit the mountain.

They come to enjoy what it has to offer in the winter.

Sledging,

Skiing.

All happy to share in its beauty,

Its peace.

Its tranquility.

And still the mountain stands tall and strong.

Accepting the changes.

Accepting the passage of time.

And then slowly the first signs of spring appear.

A warm sun that begins to melt the snow.

And the snow runs down the side of the mountain in streams.

And underneath the soft green shoots are beginning to grow.

The sun gets warmer.

And still the mountain stands tall and strong.

Blossom appears on the mountain.

Beautiful pink blossom.

The wind blows slightly on the mountain and the blossom is blown about.

Still the mountain stands tall and strong.

And the mountain's a lesson to all of us.

That things come and go.

That seasons change.

And circumstances in our lives change.

But most things will pass.

Just like the seasons,

Things change.

Each season is different.

And when that same season comes around again,

It's slightly different than the one before.

But just like the mountain,

We can stand tall and strong.

We can accept what we can't change.

And enjoy the present moment.

Which is the only moment that we truly have.
