So,
Let's talk about difficult people,
You know,
The ones your mind has already made a full case against.
Maybe it's something that they said,
Maybe how they keep showing up,
Maybe it's a pattern that just wears on you.
And,
Pretty quickly,
The mind does what it does best,
It reduces them.
They're selfish,
They're careless,
They always do this.
But today,
Instead of trying to fix anything,
We're going to gently widen the lens.
So,
Let's start with a breath,
Inhale,
Exhale,
And bring to mind someone who creates some friction for you.
Not the hardest person,
Just someone mildly difficult,
Probably doesn't take too much imagination,
And just noticing whatever happens in the body,
Recognizing that it's okay,
No judgment,
Just let it be there.
Now,
Gently consider this.
This person has a history,
They were once a child,
They have been shaped by fear,
Habits,
Pain,
Just like you.
And you don't have to agree with their behavior to recognize their humanity.
Take a breath in,
And a breath out,
And if it feels possible in this moment,
Just quietly offer a simple intention.
I hope you're safe,
I hope you're at ease,
I hope you find peace.
There is no pressure to mean it perfectly,
And just try it on.
As Pema Chodron once said,
Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded,
It's a relationship between equals.
And maybe that's enough for today.
Just remembering that people are rarely one thing,
Including you.
Thank you so much for joining me.
