This is a short grouding practice that can be helpful when you are experiencing difficult thoughts or emotions. A simple practice, that teaches us how to use our feet as an anchor during challenging moments.

Feet on the floor.

This is also a simple practice.

But feeling our feet on the floor can be a reliable anchor.

Perhaps when we're feeling strong emotion,

As a way of helping us to connect with a feeling of being grounded.

So inviting you to bring the attention all the way down into your feet on the floor.

And exploring sensations in the feet.

Perhaps beginning with the toes,

Spaces between the toes,

The balls of the feet,

The arches,

Where the soles of the feet make contact with the ground beneath you.

And really sensing into these sensations of contact.

Warmth.

Tingling.

Noticing how the ground beneath you is supporting the feet.

Rooted.

Connected.

Steady.

Weight of the body going down.

Feet on the floor.

An excellent one-minute grounding exercise (plus an almost minute-long preface you may only need to hear once). What makes this stand out for me, aside from its simplicity and adaptability (it can really be performed in almost any seated or standing position), is its focus on the feet rather than the breath. Many times, in heightened states of panic or anxiety, the breath may be too frantic at first to use as an anchor, and the feet can work just as well.
