Welcome to Divine Choices.
So hum is a powerful mantra and it's often linked to the breath with so being used on the inhale and hum on the exhale.
It symbolizes the connection between the individual and the universe.
Mantras are believed to have a calming and centering effect on the mind.
So hum is a Sanskrit word and it translates to I am that.
It's a mantra used in Hindu and Yogic traditions to identify the individual self with the universal consciousness.
In today's practice,
We will use the mantra So Hum with our in and out breath to help anchor us and settle and focus our minds.
When you silently repeat a mantra in meditation,
You go beyond the mind's thoughts and you dip into the gap,
The space of pure consciousness.
Get comfortable.
Move around until you do.
Drop your shoulders.
Relax your jaw.
Continue to move until you find that perfect spot.
Close your eyes if you have not done so already.
Take a deep cleansing breath and come into this present moment.
And release your breath slowly from your mouth.
We're going to focus our breath and silently repeating So during your inhale and release the breath,
Silently repeating Hum on the exhale.
Let's begin.
Take a slow,
Deep breath through your nose while thinking and silently repeating the word So.
Then slowly exhale through your nose while silently repeating the word Hum.
And as we inhale slow,
We use the silent vibration sound to bring fresh energy and life force.
And when we breathe out Hum,
The exhale helps to let go of tension and negativity.
And continue to allow your breath to flow easily,
Silently repeating So with each inflow and outflow of the breath.
Don't try to control the flow of breath.
Just breathe in So.
Continue on your own.
I will mind the time and let you know when to release the mantra.
In-breath So.
In-breath So.
Remember,
If you find your thoughts drifting away from your breath,
That is normal.
Just come back to your breath.
Breathing in So.
Stop repeating the mantra.
Remain comfortable with your eyes closed.
Give your body a little stretch and come back into the space slowly.
Wiggle your fingers.
Wiggle your toes.
Open your eyes slowly when you're ready.
Remember,
How you come into your meditation practice by getting comfortable,
Having your sacred spot to meditate in,
And how you come out is all part of the practice.
If you don't,
I recommend keeping a little journal so when you come out of your practice,
You can jot down some self-reflecting thoughts that happen during your meditation.
With anything,
It takes 30 days to create a habit.
Come back to this meditation daily to create a new habit,
Or listen to my quick 3-minute Sohum when you need a reset or entering into a stressful meeting or conversation to settle yourself and your mind.
Thank you for meditating with me.
Until next time.
Namaste
