Hello from the desert in Morocco,
In the Sahara.
Today I want to talk about presence.
Presence in moments of anxiety,
Presence in moments of happiness.
Presence is something that is mentioned and thrown around and yet when we need it most sometimes it's the hardest thing to find.
Yesterday I imagined recording this meditation on presence to talk about taking a beautiful moment in,
To talk about the gorgeousness and celebration that comes with excitement and joy.
I found myself this morning waking up in the darkness,
Getting ready to go and watch the sunrise.
I left still with that excitement inside of me and quickly my anxiety took over.
I might not have one or perfected presence in that moment but what I will say is what we can do to come back to presence.
I found myself a chair alone and with my feet in the ground,
My feet in the sand uncrossed.
I invite you at this moment to find a comfortable position,
Uncross your legs,
Maybe you're sitting in a chair laying down,
Just find that comfort.
Noticing what your body feels like,
Bringing this presence into your body.
If you're outside in nature maybe you feel the grass under your feet,
Maybe you hear sounds around you.
I hear camels in the distance,
Some birds.
Anxiety can flood over us.
Start as a little idea and build and build until it feels like feels like there's just water rushing through your body and you don't know where it came from or how to stop it.
At least that's how it sometimes feels for me.
I get on myself about how did I get here,
Why did I get here.
So we'll take a couple breaths together because this I believe is the biggest tool in a moment of anxiety.
Taking another one in,
Breathing in and letting it all go.
Last one here,
Breathing in,
Feeling it fill your body and a little bit more relaxed as you breathe out.
I know maybe your thoughts are racing.
I invite you to just feel,
Maybe imagine your thoughts as if they're from a water fountain or a faucet.
Taking your hand,
You're going to close the faucet just a little bit.
There's still going to be a stream of water,
Some droplets.
We're not trying to turn it off,
Just trying to make it a little bit more manageable.
Having that awareness so you can shift,
Repeating to yourself,
I am present.
I am deserving.
I am safe.
Again,
I am present.
I am deserving.
I am safe.
Feeling these words wash over you,
Noticing how your body might soften,
Your breath might slow.
I am present.
I am deserving.
I am safe.
I am present.
I am deserving.
And I am safe.
These mantras,
Ones you can come back to whenever you please.
Taking another breath,
I'll breathe in with you here for a couple rounds.
Feel free to follow my breath or breathe on your own.
Whatever makes you feel the most present.
Last one,
Hearing the sound move under my feet and as birds land and beetles crawl,
I now notice the clouds.
They have started to fill the sky above me and the sun has become a little bit dimmer.
I'll let you listen for just a moment.
I thank you so much for spending this little bit of time with me,
Which I know can make all the difference.
A moment to calm your anxiety,
A moment to come back to yourself.
From my heart to yours,
I thank you and have a great rest of your day.
