Hello from the Sahara Desert.
Today I want to focus on taking a breath and being in the moment.
Take a moment to find a comfortable seat.
Either laying down,
Maybe sitting in a chair,
Maybe on a cushion,
Maybe if you're outside finding your feet and legs in the earth on the ground.
Settling down here.
This morning I woke up to the sounds of lots of wind and I couldn't but think of breathing.
Think of how our breath must sound as it comes in and out of our body,
But just amplified way more.
And that must be what it sounded like all around me.
Something magical about the wind in the desert is when you're in the middle of it,
You really just hear wind and sand blowing around.
However,
On our camp we hear trees,
Which almost make me feel like I'm at the ocean.
Regardless,
Each gust of wind made me take a to focus on my breath.
Bring attention to what your breath is doing,
How it's filling your body,
How it's filling your chest,
Your stomach,
The temperature of it as it goes through your mouth and nose.
Maybe you can even hear the wind in the background.
Almost a guide to breathe along to.
Focusing on directing your breath all the way down to the bottom of your feet.
Imagining your breath swirling through your entire body and getting to the bottoms of your feet.
And as you breathe out,
Imagining that breath of air bringing with it anything that your body doesn't need to hold on to.
Directing your next breath to your knees.
With each breath,
Bringing some new energy into our body.
Letting our breath bring out any old energy.
Getting up to our stomachs,
Our hips,
Really the middle of our bodies.
I like to imagine my breath swirling through my stomach,
Almost moving around anything that was stuck.
Noticing how your lungs move.
Maybe even imagining them filling up like balloons.
And gently falling back down.
Doing the same thing here.
Breathing in new breath.
And breathing out what you no longer need.
Next one,
Direct in your head.
I know this isn't where the air naturally flows,
But try in your mind to imagine that stream of breath just moving right into the middle of your eyebrows,
Your forehead,
Maybe even your head if it feels cloudy.
As if wind was just blowing away anything that's stuck.
If you're struggling to find your breath in your head,
Maybe even pick up a finger and put it right where you want the breath to go.
Maybe point right to the middle of your forehead.
To the top of your crown,
Whatever that might be.
Try to bring the breath to your fingertip.
The winds have picked up,
Letting me know to breathe even deeper.
Following wherever it is that my body takes it.
Following wherever it is that my body takes it.
Letting your breath swirl throughout your body for a last couple of cleansing breaths here.
You can continue to breathe for a couple more moments here,
Whatever is comfortable.
I'll leave a little bit of silence and then some sounds.
Feel free to come back to this whenever you need a moment to breathe.
Thank you for sharing these couple minutes with me and for taking some time out of your day.
