So welcome to Making Meditation Mainstream 10-Minute Meditations.
My name is Katie and our meditation theme for today is feeling,
Allowing yourself to feel vulnerable and feel the full scale of emotions.
When we're able to really acknowledge the way that we're feeling,
We're able to so much better process all of our emotions.
We often label emotions as being negative or bad and we tend to often avoid these emotions that we perceive to be negative.
We might use tactics such as we might self-medicate with drinking or taking drugs or we might reach to food or avoidance like procrastination and we end up repressing these emotions which can often lead to disease and unbalance and disharmony in the body.
If you think about that word disease,
If you break it down,
It's dis and ease.
It's unease of the body and when we meditate,
We're able to create a level of self-awareness and kindness and softness towards these emotions and we're able to place less labels,
Less judgment on these emotions but also just allowing yourself to actually feel the full range of these kinds of emotions.
So with today's practice,
If you know that there's something that you've been pushing down,
I'd really like you to just let go and allow yourself to really feel an emotion that you've been pushing down.
Just let that come up today and acknowledge it.
Don't judge it,
Don't label it.
Just see how you go with this practice.
So get yourself nice and settled in as we will now begin the meditation sequence.
Take a moment now to settle in and relax.
Close your eyes and together let's take three breaths.
On each exhale,
Allow yourself to relax a little more and more.
Bring yourself into the present moment.
Allow the past to be the past and the future to be the future.
You are safe in this moment right now.
Place your attention on the top of your head and allow a deep sense of relaxation to cascade slowly down your face.
Feel your eyes become heavy.
Release your jaw,
Soften your mouth.
Allow your tongue to sit comfortably on the roof of your mouth.
Allow your shoulders to fall away from your neck,
Completely relaxing your arms,
Letting go of your belly,
Feeling your legs and your feet completely relaxed.
Now place your focus and awareness on your breath.
Watching the inhale and the exhale of the breath,
Just witnessing the rise and fall of your chest.
Should you have any thoughts or distractions,
Just simply acknowledging them,
Allowing them to drift slowly away and calmly before returning your attention back to the rise and fall of your chest.
Take a moment now to contemplate today's theme.
Thank you for joining Making Meditation Mainstream.
