Coping With Disability Through Soothing Meditation & Healing Harp Music

With Holly Honeychurch

Welcome to this 7-day course on Insight Timer. This course is here to support you and remind you you’re not alone with your disability. It might feel like that. It might often feel overwhelming. You have a disability and it’s really hard to manage everything that goes with it. You’re in constant pain and discomfort while everyone else seems to breeze through life easily doing all the things you find hard or impossible. It’s stressful and upsetting. I want to remind you that deep within you, there’s a peaceful place too. Away from the everyday monotony of life. Away from judgement and stares. A place to find joy and support from the universe. A place just for you. That’s what this course is about. This course offers a safe space of relaxation and meditation to let all your thoughts go and fill you up with positivity. It will take you on a gentle musical adventure. Bright melodic sound waves will wash over you and heal you like a balm. The strings are tuned to 432Hz - a soft tone, easy on the ear, generating positive effects on the mind and body. You’ll feel light and unburdened. There’ll be nurturing words to support and hold you, then you’ll enter a beautiful state of relaxation through the magical harp music.

Meet your Teacher

Holly has lived with disabilities in her feet, legs, and hips since birth. She has a variety of challenges, which cause problems for her whole body. Every step she takes is draining mentally. She has delved into many coping strategies over the years and is still learning how to thrive in the ever changing body she has been given. She is a harp therapist making relaxing, soothing, ethereal harp music, which takes the listener away to powerful realms where they feel peaceful and held by sweet, radiant, magical melodies. These healing vibrations stay with the listener long after the music has finished.

Lesson 1

I Am Strong

Day 1 celebrates your strength and asks you questions about how you might be feeling as you cope with your disability. It’s full of compassion and kindness, empathising with what you’re going through. There’s a meditation where you’ll visualise your own inner light, some positive affirmations to contemplate, then relaxing harp music with an exotic vibe.

Lesson 2

I Am Angry

In Day 2 I talk about the anger and frustration you might feel due to your body not working the way you want it to. I introduce the idea of ‘oblivion’ - a place where you might go to try and escape your disability and all it entails. There are suggestions on how to get out of this mindset, a story about a dedicated dog, and then, a cosmic harp guided meditation into the sea.

Lesson 3

I Am Kind

Day 3 is about what you do for others, what you notice in others and how kind and sensitive you are. It touches upon the healthiness of community connection and being around others. There’s a little breathing exercise to promote a tranquil state (which can be done every day), a calm visualisation full of healing light and some soothing, ethereal harp music to drift away into at the end. If you want to hold your breath for a shorter time to begin with, here's a suggestion of the breath length you could use when we get to the 4-7-8 breathing exercise: - Breathe in through the nose for 2 seconds - Hold the breath for a count of 3.5 seconds - Exhale through the mouth for 4 seconds

Lesson 4

I Like To Imagine

Day 4 encourages you to use your imagination to promote healing within. It reminds you how powerful thoughts are and how important positive thinking is to change how you feel. There’s a fun story a girl once told me about feeling buzzy, then some lovely, uplifting, magical affirmations. This is followed by a little relaxed breathing, some self-love and delightful harp music in a duet with a blackbird.

Lesson 5

I Am Unique

Day 5 helps you explore what else you are besides disabled. Sometimes having a disability can take over everything and this episode reminds you that you have many facets and gifts. I talk about your individuality, your unique spirit and how comparing yourself to others is a waste of time. There’s a story about Tutankhamun and his mobility aids followed by some breathing, relaxing, meditation, and affirmations about creativity and purpose. An uplifting, dreamy harp journey ends this day.

Lesson 6

I Am Scared

Day 6 calls out the feelings of worry and anxiety you might have about the future and how disability is a life-changing journey. It guides you towards thinking more about your present moment and staying in a place of happiness through laughter and good cheer. There’s a fun story about me meeting some cows in a field, some gentle movement suggestions, a little breathing, and a visualisation where you choose the colour of your wings. This is followed by some uplifting harp music soaring up into the sky. We’re going flying.

Lesson 7

I Live My Best Life

Day 7 helps you relish your day by having some mini adventures and going places you haven’t been before. It wants you to look after your spirit by getting out of your normal routine and finding that spark again. It doesn’t have to be much and I give you lots of fun suggestions. I talk about the power of nature and movement to help you feel better. There’s some meditation where everyone taking the course connects together for a few moments, some affirmations full of love and strength, then gorgeous harp music - emotive and bright - to bathe in. Thank you for being here! With love, Holly.

Thank you for this course! It’s so hard to find something for those of us in the disabled community. It gave me a sense of belonging and the harp music was beautiful!

It was a much needed topic. The only issue I had was that the heart music was extremely loud after the verbal discussion. So I would have to turn down the volume each time.

Marvelous! This is a course I will go through again and again. Her voice is so soothing and her delivery is quite hypnotic (but not of course). The spoken content is so spot on to the challenges of a disability but then you get swept away in the dreamlike immersive experience and ethereal music. So uplifting!
