It's a rainy day and perhaps you love the rain,
Perhaps not,
But regardless here we are together.
A rainy day is the perfect opportunity to rest and allow nature to dictate your activities for the day.
You most likely have a lot of things you could be doing inside,
But for now we are relaxing together.
You don't have to be lying down or sitting in a meditation posture,
You can place yourself wherever and however you feel most comfortable.
Take some time to tune into the sound of the rain on the roof.
Take some deep breaths,
Fill your lungs up,
A bit more,
And let it go with a sigh,
And again,
And once more,
That's good,
How does it make you feel?
There's no right or wrong answers,
Just think about how you're feeling listening to the rain.
Try and come up with three words to describe those feelings,
If you find the results interesting you can ponder them for a moment,
If not,
Then all good,
Let's just listen to the music for a while.
Now it's time to let the thinking mind take a break,
Close your eyes if you haven't already and tune back into the sound of the rain.
I think it's wonderful that in the age of our digital technology we still sometimes are at the mercy of the elements,
There's a certain joy in surrendering to nature and allowing her to help us rest.
I'm assuming the rain is outside and you are inside,
So now bring your attention to any noises you can hear inside,
Maybe the fridge motor,
Or some music,
Or the other people in your house.
Try not to make any judgements about those noises,
Just be aware of them,
You can label them in your mind or leave them purely as sound waves that are reaching your ears,
Move your attention to the sounds in the room with you.
Tune in for the sound of your breath,
You can deepen it or make a Darth Vader type sound to help you tune in,
Breathe.
Check in with your body and if you're a bit crumpled up,
Then maybe try and uncrumple a bit.
Check in with your breath,
Is it ragged or shallow?
Try and breathe deeply and smoothly.
Starting with your belly,
Move your attention over your body,
Moving up towards your head,
Then down the back of your body towards your feet,
Then back up the front again.
It's helpful to do this in time with your breath.
Breathing in,
Moving your attention up along the front of your body.
Breathing out,
Moving your attention down along the back of your body.
Inhale moving over the front,
Exhale moving down the back,
Inhale,
Exhale,
Inhale,
Exhale.
Tuning in again to the sound of your breath,
And then the sounds in the room,
Then in the house,
And now outside.
Is it still raining?
It might be hard to tell with the music playing so I'll turn it down for a moment.
Take some really deep breaths and notice the quality of the air.
If it's not too cold outside,
You might like to open a door or window after this meditation and breathe some fresh rainy air.
We're coming to the end of our time together,
I hope you're able to stay in relaxation for a little longer,
Maybe a cup of tea and a good book or some gentle yoga.
If you're feeling adventurous you could bundle up and take a walk in the rain.
I hope you have a lovely rainy day and thank you for spending this time with me.
