Hello,
My name is Leah Sugarman.
Welcome to your Breath of Fire practice.
So Breath of Fire,
In some lineages,
Is known as Kapalabhati.
And it's a very invigorating breath,
A very energizing and powerful breath.
Because of that it has a tendency to sometimes create some lightheadedness,
So be cautious as you practice.
If you're pregnant you will want to avoid this practice for now but if you're feeling good and up and ready for it you're welcome to join in.
And this is done by breathing.
Very forcefully out through the nose so when you take this breath you'll just naturally breathe in through the nose allow that breath to happen naturally you don't need to think about the inhales at all but take sharp short forceful exhales out of your nose and focus on the exhalation so you really feel the pumping of your belly as you do this breath So rest your hands over your belly so you can really feel that pulsation beneath you.
And then soften and relax your shoulders.
So find any comfortable seated position however you'd like.
Ground down into your sitting bones and lift up tall through the crown of your head.
You're welcome to keep your eyes open.
You could soften your gaze,
Or if you'd like to,
You could close your eyes.
And draw your awareness inside.
Take a few really relaxing deep full breaths.
And then on your next breath,
Take a deep inhale.
And begin with sharp forceful short exhales through your nose.
.
.
Inhale deeply.
Exhale fully.
Just pause for a moment,
Observe any effects that this practice may have created.
So if you're feeling a little bit lightheaded,
Just restore your natural breath and continue to breathe normally.
If you would like to,
You can prepare for another round.
And again,
Focus on this pumping of your belly,
Feel your belly.
Expand and contract.
Beneath your hand.
Allow the inhales to happen naturally and just focus on that sharp,
Short,
Forceful exhale out of your nose.
So inhale deeply.
And begin.
.
Inhale deeply.
Exhale fully.
Relax your arms down.
Just restore your natural breath.
Again,
Take notice of any changes that this pranayama practice may have created.
And if your eyes are closed,
Flutter them open now.
And hopefully you feel a little bit more energized already.
You could always repeat this practice a few more times to really get everything,
All your blood pumping,
Your heart rate up to really feel this invigoration of this breath.
Focusing again,
Always on those sharp,
Short,
Forceful exhales through your nose.
So this is Breath of Fire,
And I hope you enjoy.
I'll see you next time.
