Join me now as we do mirror work,
And you will need to either stand or sit in front of a mirror,
Or have a mirror on a stand and have it angled easily to make eye contact with your reflection.
You may also like to set a 10 minute timer,
Or start with 5 minutes.
Now if you need to pause and set yourself up,
Please do so.
Find a comfortable position where you can begin to relax and have this time for yourself.
Close down your eyes and tune into your breath.
Take a few deep breaths,
Allowing yourself to inhale and then exhale.
Inhale and exhale.
Just allow your breathing to be nice and relaxed.
And as your body relaxes,
Let yourself breathe easily and naturally.
You may like to scan your body and notice any areas of tension or discomfort,
And then imagine sending your breath to relax those areas,
To release and let go.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes and look in the mirror.
Just glance into your eyes,
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
Taking this moment to be aware of who you are,
As you begin to gaze deeply into your own eyes.
Notice the rhythm of your breath.
Does it feel or sound any different as you gaze into the mirror?
Notice the quality of your gaze.
Is it harsh or soft?
Is it critical or kind?
Do you immediately focus on something specific you dislike about yourself?
Soften your gaze as much as you can.
And if you notice yourself hardening by focusing on a detail or a flaw in your appearance,
Simply breathe in deeply and visualize each breath you exhale slowly dissolving that dislike until you feel yourself softening again.
Gaze at your reflection,
Staying open to whatever arises.
Notice any sensations or emotions that come up and allow them to simply be there,
Without judgement or stories.
Allow your feelings and thoughts simply be there.
Just observe what they are as you breathe,
Relax your body and gaze at yourself with no goal other than to be present with you.
What thoughts come to mind?
Does a little voice begin to name flaws,
One after the other?
Do you find it hard to hold your gaze because of judgements or criticisms?
Bring your awareness to the way your emotions move across your face.
What does judgement look like?
Anger?
Fear?
Acceptance?
Compassion?
Kindness?
As each thought or emotion comes up,
Observe it and gently return your attention to a reflection and hold your gaze,
Looking at yourself with kindness.
You are safe to feel this.
This is your chance to reconnect,
To express and let go.
And you can put your hands on your heart centre and repeat after me.
I love myself.
I approve of myself.
I accept myself.
I radiate love and self-compassion.
It's okay to be me,
Just as I am.
And if any sensations or thoughts in or about your body are present,
Ask your body what areas need your attention.
Where do you need to go in your body?
Where do you sense the ache of pain or judgements?
Wherever it is,
Go to that part of your body and visualise you can hold that part of your body in the palms of your hands and take a moment to send it love.
Repeat after me while holding this part of your body as you reconnect with your wholeness.
As you hold that part of your body you can say,
I love this part.
I approve of this part.
I accept this part.
I radiate love and self-compassion.
I embrace all that I am right now.
Take a moment to breathe your love and kindness.
See it flowing to that part of your body.
To every part of your body.
Your inner being that lies within you.
Underneath the body.
You can give permission to whatever needs to be released and let go.
And let love and compassion flow in your heart space.
And feel it expand out to your whole body.
As you radiate love and self-compassion.
Feel your own love inside.
Feel it moving around as blissful energy.
Covering and flowing throughout your body.
Feel that love expanding outside your body in a bubble.
Keeping you safe and secure.
Your reflection to speak to you.
What advice,
Message or insight does your reflection have for you?
Feel the sheer love you have for yourself.
All the times that you've gotten through.
And all the memories you've made.
All the achievements you've experienced.
You truly love yourself.
Feel the love.
Protect it.
Hold it dear within you.
As you go about your day.
Speaking to your beautiful soul.
With love and respect.
Remembering yourself right here,
Right now.
Returning to your breath.
Inhale slowly and deeply.
And exhale.
Knowing you are ready to spread your love to others.
Because you appreciate and love yourself first.
I'm wondering if you're surprised at what you saw.
Perhaps after doing the mirror work you might see that although mirrors are an ideal tool for checking our appearance and other physical traits.
They can actually reveal so much more.
Bringing a different awareness and perspective.
As you gaze into a mirror it makes it possible to face your emotions and the sensations and thoughts that accompany them.
There's more to you than the way you look.
Your mirror often holds the key to the hidden depths of your true self.
