Thank you for joining me today for this Mindful Minutes meditation.
About aging gracefully.
I recently saw a quote that really resonated with me.
Aging is a gift.
Wear it with dignity.
As I wind down the last few months of my 49th year.
There is a heightened awareness of how true those words are.
Please take a moment to look around you.
Find a place where you can pause to breathe and reconnect.
Feel free to sit up tall or lie down.
It's up to you.
This is your practice.
I am here simply as your guide.
A friend to walk the path by your side.
Once you are comfortable.
Invite your eyes to close if that feels okay to you.
Or simply allow your gaze to soften.
You cannot do this wrong.
We are simply giving our eyes the opportunity to rest from the world of seeing.
Reducing the input into our brain.
So that we can remain focused right here and right now.
Total awareness of this present moment.
Gently now,
Shift your attention away from your eyes.
As you begin to observe the breath moving in and out of your body.
Feel the sensation of the breath moving in.
Compare it to the sensation of the breath moving out.
Noticing without judgment.
What is your breath doing right now?
No need to change or fix anything.
Simple awareness.
Next,
Become curious about the space around you.
Begin to explore your space through sound allowing your ears to hear all of the different sounds around you right now.
No need to linger on any sound in particular.
No need to distinguish the origin of each sound.
Or to label any sounds as good or bad.
Simply flitting from one blossom of sound to the next.
Like a butterfly's gentle rhythmic dance.
Sipping sweet nectar from one flower.
And then catching a new breeze to drift seamlessly toward the next blossom of sound.
Then turn your awareness within.
Scanning your body from the top of your head.
All the way down to your toes.
Noticing sensations.
Just like you noticed sounds.
Not getting stuck on any one sensation.
Not labeling sensations as good or bad.
Just exploring your inner landscape with curiosity.
And feel as your body begins to unravel the tightness and tension from today.
You Can you discover even more freedom in your breath?
To expand deeper within.
Inviting your breath to become slow and steady.
Easy,
Deep breaths.
Feel the breath moving in and out of your body.
As it softens and melts into the support beneath you.
Then ask yourself.
Is it possible to trust your body to maintain this comfortable rhythm of breath?
Are you ready to release the need to direct or control?
And simply allow the breath to fall in.
And the breath to fall out.
Like a rhythmic tide.
Endless waves lapping at the beach.
Aging is a funny thing.
One day you wake up.
And your youth has quietly slipped away.
The mirror can sometimes lie to us.
Blinding us to the fact that that solitary hidden strand of silver began its slow crawl of wisdom.
Spilling across your head.
Then overnight igniting into a constellation of white.
That seems to have appeared out of nowhere.
It may feel like just yesterday you were in the thick of family life.
Rushing from one event to the next.
But now you're a baby?
Is creating a life of their own.
The empty nest is a profound intersection between loss and liberation.
The silence can feel jarring after years of chaotic joy.
Your home becoming the quiet space of transition.
Where you navigate the bittersweet grief of letting go.
Blended with the extreme pride of the person your child is blossoming into.
In the blank canvas of your own rediscovery.
Instead of focusing on the absence of laughter down the hall.
Or the finally clear countertops.
Or the uncluttered clean sink.
We can focus on this milestone marking your metamorphosis Do you get to write your next chapter?
Any way you wish.
Complete freedom.
Your youth may have slipped away while you were too busy to notice.
But it didn't leave you empty-handed.
It took with it your insecurities.
Your rush to please all those around you.
It softened and melted away your fear of not being enough.
And in exchange,
It left you something better.
A slower pace.
A more confident and steadier step.
In youth's wake,
You discover the wisdom to say goodbye without fear.
The grace to cherish those who stay.
And the courage to be authentically you.
Unapologetically.
Aging isn't losing.
It's not something we need to fight or attempt to avoid.
It is a blessing denied to many.
It's letting go.
And learning to accept.
Aging is the ability to release and finally see.
Your beauty was never just what you saw in the mirror.
It radiated from deep within.
Your beauty lies in your stories.
In your scars.
It is in all that you have overcome.
And the strength you share with others.
Your beauty is in your heart.
As you embrace your aging as a gift.
As you wear it with dignity.
Loving this body as it transitions and changes.
Each gray hair representing the knowledge.
That your life's experience turned into wisdom.
Each smile etched across your face with pride.
Your mind and body so much stronger than when you were younger.
Your circle of friends may be smaller,
But each member is true.
You now tell your friends that you love them without shame.
You have faced many of life's challenges together.
Supported one another.
And there is no doubt that when you need them,
They will be there.
Friends become your chosen family.
This life is truly a gift.
Be grateful to have made it this far Before we end,
Please make a mental list of all you have to be grateful for.
And when you feel complete,
Blink your eyes open with a smile.
Ready to face the rest of your day in a state of gratitude.
Have a great day my friend.
