This is the first in the chakra healing series,
A brand new series of meditations for us to take a journey together through the chakras so we can uncover healing and wholeness,
Discovering where we feel stuck and welcoming movement and freedom into our minds,
Bodies,
And life.
In today's practice,
We will focus on the first energy center known as the root chakra.
Anytime we are challenged by making major life changes or feel overwhelmed or unsettled,
It is a good idea to check in with the root chakra.
Give yourself permission to take this time to feel grounded,
Connected,
And supported.
In case you are new to chakras,
The chakras are energy centers that correspond to nerve bundles and major organs in the body.
Each chakra is like a spinning wheel collecting the energy from below it and raising it higher until it is caught by the next chakra and circulated.
When all of the chakras are open and flowing,
We experience health and well-being.
But our emotions,
Stress,
And tension from everyday life can block this natural flow of energy.
It's like we need to clean our external world,
Our house,
And our body.
We also need to attend to our internal cleanliness,
Meaning our emotions and our energy.
So this meditation is like a spring clean for our inner world,
Beginning at the root chakra.
So find somewhere quiet where you can sit or lie down without being disturbed.
Take some time to settle in.
Feeling comfort and welcoming ease into the mind and body.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and slowly breathe it out through your mouth.
Another deep breath in through the nose and really slowly out through the mouth.
One last slow deep breath in through the nose and let it all go through the mouth.
Now breathe in and out through your nose as we invite the breath to slow down.
The breath becomes steady and easy.
No need to force the breath to change.
Slowly allow the breath to fall in and out of the body without any effort at all.
Now begin to count your inhalation and bring the exhalation into balance.
If you inhale to a count of four,
Then also exhale to a count of four.
Total awareness on counting in your breath as it moves in and out of the body.
Let go of the effort of counting now and simply allow the breath to fall in and out once more.
Shifting your awareness to the physical body.
Welcoming the sensation of heaviness into your body.
Growing heavier and heavier with every exhalation.
The body melting into the support beneath you.
I invite you to really let go.
Bring yourself to melt and soften.
Now is the time to set our intention,
Our sankopa.
We could set an intention of I release all blockages or any short positive sankopa that feels right for you in this moment.
Once you have decided what your intention will be,
Repeat it three times silently with feeling.
Feeling that intention into your reality.
Vinidra works from the outside in to effect changes from the inside out.
This produces a deep relaxation and physical release from tension,
Stress and negative ways of thinking,
Feeling and reacting.
Now begin sensing your body with the understanding that whatever you experience is perfect,
Just as it is.
We will move quickly from one part to the next,
Simply feeling.
Feeling each part without judgment,
Without movement.
Beginning with our right side,
Remain in stillness as we simply notice the right hand,

Whole back of the body,
Whole front of the body,
Whole of the head and face together,
Legs,
Arms together,
The whole body together,
The whole body together.
Sensation inside the body,
Sensation on the surface of the body,
The entire body relaxed and at ease as radiant sensation.
We will begin by bringing our attention back to the breath.
Observe all of the muscles of respiration.
Simply watch the breath as it moves up and down between the base of the spine up to the crown of the head.
Inhaling up and exhaling down as if there is a clear channel for our breath to move through the center of our body.
And just notice if there are any areas where you feel stuck.
Exploring without judgment,
Inhaling up and exhaling down.
Total awareness of riding the wave of the breath up and down the spine and noticing any tightness or resistance.
Now bring total awareness to the base of the spine.
Our first chakra,
Known as Mooladhara or root support.
Imagine a red orb of energy at the base of the spine.
At first we will simply observe any sensations here.
Total awareness.
Simply notice anything that comes up for you as you explore the base of the spine.
Do you feel movement or do you feel stuck?
No judgment.
Simply observe with curiosity.
The first chakra's purpose is grounding,
Foundation,
Survival and stability.
A sense of belonging.
It is connected to the earth element.
I invite you to let go of the notion of separateness.
And welcome connection and support.
All of our needs are taken care of.
Together let's imagine that we are standing tall.
Like a beautiful,
Strong and majestic tree.
Any tree that makes you feel strong and stable.
It could be a tall palm tree that bends easily with the wind.
Or it could be a stately oak tree,
Strong and steady.
Once you have a picture of your tree in your mind's eye,
Begin to grow roots deep into the earth.
Grow your roots deep and wide.
Getting anchored.
Feeling secure.
Taking our time and really see and feel all of your roots growing deep into the earth.
Remember a tree with strong roots can withstand all of the storms of life.
Once your roots are deep and wide,
Keep that image of the tree in your mind's eye while you shift your awareness back to the base of your spine.
The root chakra.
Explore what you have been holding onto here.
Begin to use the breath as a cleansing tool.
Inhaling gather anything you discover here that no longer serves you.
Sending all of your past worries and troubles through your roots deep into Mother Earth.
Give her your anxiety.
Your fear.
Breathing out sadness.
Negativity.
Sending out the feeling of powerlessness.
Letting go of stagnation.
Sending everything you no longer need to carry deep into the earth.
Inhale expanding courage.
Exhale releasing fear.
Inhaling courage.
Inhaling fear.
Now feel the healing energy that Mother Earth sends back up through your roots.
Welcome that healing white light into your body.
See or feel it spreading to every cell,
Every dark corner of your being.
Filling up so much that it begins to radiate out of your pores and all around.
Continue to grow lighter and brighter and see how far you can get your light to shine.
Letting go of the boundaries of your body.
Shine your light far and wide.
Slowly bring your awareness back into the physical body.
Feel the weight of your body resting here.
Slowly support it.
Welcome movement and freedom back into the base of the spine.
The first chakra.
Picture the beautiful ruby red in wheel of energy growing and strengthening with each inhalation.
Encouraging ourselves to feel safe so we can begin to trust again.
Reawakening the sense of belonging.
Letting go of the Maya,
The illusion that we are separate.
We are not separate and alone.
We are all one.
Connected to all.
We are balanced,
Healthy and secure.
The first chakra is balanced,
Healthy and moving freely.
We affirm that love,
Support and care are all there when we need it.
We see and experience the kindness in strangers.
When we allow goodness to flow towards us.
Breathe in new beginnings.
Breathe out what no longer serves you.
Feel the stillness in your mind and body.
Feel the warm bubble of healing white light all around you.
Feel it energizing you.
Breathe in this white light.
Breathe out what no longer serves you.
I am grounded.
I am safe.
I am supported by the universe.
I am grounded.
I am safe.
I am supported by the universe.
I am grounded.
I am safe.
I am supported by the universe.
Now think back to the beginning of our practice.
Remember your sankopa,
Your intention for practicing.
Affirm your sankopa by silently repeating it three times.
The sankopa that is practiced with feeling will never let you down.
Continue to work with this sankopa until it comes true in your life.
The sankopa at the beginning of the practice is like planting a seed.
And the sankopa at the end of the practice is like watering and nurturing your seed.
Yoga nidra is now complete.
Om shanti shanti shanti meaning peace,
Peace,
Peace.
May we all know peace within.
May we all be surrounded by peace.
May we bring peace to all those we encounter.
The gratitude and respect to each other and all of our teachers.
Namaste.
Thank you for joining me in opening and awakening the root chakra.
Please come back to this meditation anytime you feel overwhelmed,
Unsettled or facing major changes in your life.
Give yourself the gift of your total awareness so you can feel more grounded,
Connected and supported.
Please stay tuned for the next episode where we will explore the second chakra.
Sleep well friends.
