This is a short movement break for children aged six to nine to help bring calm to their bodies.
A teacher or adult should be with you while you listen.
Make sure you have a little bit of space around your body.
You can do this sitting or standing and remember that even though we are going to be moving our bodies,
We don't need to make noises with our mouths.
Keep your listening ears turned on.
Sometimes our bodies fill up with extra energy.
It might feel bouncy,
Buzzy,
Wiggly,
Or like you just can't keep still.
That's not a problem.
Bodies are meant to move.
Let's help the wiggles come out in a safe way.
Start by wiggling just your fingers.
Fast little wiggles like you're shaking off water.
Now your hands.
Shake,
Shake,
Shake.
Let your arms join in.
Loose and floppy.
Now wiggle your shoulders up and down and all around.
If you're standing,
You can gently shake your legs too.
And if you're sitting,
You can wiggle your feet or tap your toes.
Let the wiggles travel all through your body.
I'm going to count down from five.
Keep wiggling your body until you hear me say freeze.
Ready?
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Now freeze.
Freeze.
Hold your body still like a statue.
Squeeze your hands into fists.
Squeeze your arms into the sides of your body.
Squeeze your shoulders and squeeze your legs together.
Squeeze up your face.
Hold it all in one big squeeze for one,
Two,
Three,
And let it all go.
Feel the difference in your body.
Let's try it one more time.
Remember to keep your wiggling safe.
So big wiggles,
Hands,
Arms,
Shoulders,
Legs and feet.
Shake out all the busy energy.
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And freeze.
Now squeeze your whole body tight.
Hold for one,
Two,
Three,
And release.
Now just let your body be still.
Notice how it feels after moving and then squeezing.
Maybe it feels warmer,
Maybe heavier,
Maybe calmer.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Your body knows how to move and it also knows how to settle.
Just gently this time wiggle your fingers and toes once more.
And when you're ready,
Give your teacher a big thumbs up to show them that your body is now ready to focus.
