This is a simple and short grounding practice that uses your five senses to externally orient you in the present moment. It is a great way to start a mindfulness practice. This was specially created to support social emotional learning programs in schools, but it is suitable for anyone to practise.

Transcript

Welcome to this guided grounding meditation.

Remember to sit or stand comfortably with your spine tall.

Look around you and notice five things that you see.

You might notice details such as texture,

Color,

Shape.

You might want to keep your eyes open or if you wish you can close them and open your awareness up to all the sounds around you in this space.

Whatever you notice that is close.

Gradually shifting your awareness to sounds that are further away.

See if you can name and describe to yourself four different sounds that you hear.

Bring your awareness to any physical sensations you feel in your body.

Perhaps the ground or the seat beneath you.

Or the texture of your clothing against your skin.

Any warmness or coolness on your hands or face.

Perhaps the movement of your breath in your body.

Bring your awareness to your nasal passages.

Notice the air moving in and out.

Do you smell anything?

Finally shift your awareness into your mouth.

To the inside of your mouth and your tongue.

Is there any taste that lingers from the last thing you ate or drank?

There may or may not be.

Simply noticing that texture and sense in the inside of your mouth is enough.

You just used all five senses to notice with curiosity,

Non-judgment and presence exactly what is around you in this moment.

Have a beautiful,

Peaceful present day.

thanks Jen I loved this quick grounding practice. So helpful for someone with an over active mind like mine. :-)

A nice simple way to take account of everything around me. Something I don’t do very often. Thank you!
