As the old saying goes,
Just do it.
We know what this is like in our everyday lives,
Where instead of making things so complicated,
Especially with daily tasks,
We just do them.
We don't need a lot of extra energy,
Effort,
Contemplation,
Wavering,
Or excuses,
Analyzing,
Weighing choices.
There's just something to be done,
And we do it.
So when practicing,
You can hear maybe some frustration in my voice that sometimes I overcomplicate things.
But with Samatha practice,
Anapanasati in particular,
If we're doing the version where just staying with the breath,
One location,
It's just very simple,
Straightforward.
Stay there,
Know the breath distinctly,
Penetratively,
And that's it.
And just coming back to it over and over and over again.
It's not sexy in a way,
Intellectually.
It's not super expansive,
Profound,
Universal,
Unity,
Or anything like that.
However,
Narrowing things down will actually help expansion and profundity in the long run.
But in order to first go or use this skill,
It just has to be done very simply.
And do it,
Do it,
Do it.
