Loneliness And Holding Space When Feeling Unqualified
Reflections on recent podcast interviews: a healer facing bankruptcy and health struggles post-surgery, and a combat veteran with PTSD, both touching on loneliness. I challenge the stigma of loneliness as weakness, as I feel less lonely now, focusing on self-reliance and rediscovering identity. I urge belonging and purpose over mere solitude, distinguishing isolation (disconnection, distrust) from seclusion/retreat (beneficial self-care that benefits others). I look at emotional balance, cautioning against extremes—overly emotional or detached—and sees fluctuating feelings as normal, suggesting loneliness teaches self-responsibility and reflection on feedback. On supporting others, inspired by the veteran’s unempathetic psychologist experience, one ought emphasize compassion, kindness, listening, and equanimity, while setting boundaries to avoid overwhelm or re-triggering.
