In this guided meditation, we practice letting go of controlling our experience and being open to life as it is right now, without clinging, resisting, or judging. Allowing everything to be as it is, to come and go, helps us to let go of our patterns of clinging, resistance, and checking out, letting us live freely and peacefully in everything. The meditation ends with an excerpt from Dorothy Hunt's poem, 'Peace Is This Moment Without Judgment.' Please note: This track was recorded live and may contain background noises.

This meditation is called Letting Go and Letting Be.

In this meditation we practice letting go of controlling our experience and opening to life as it is right now,

Without clinging or resistance.

Just begin by finding a comfortable posture.

It can help to sit with your back straight and relax your shoulders.

You might take one or two longer,

Deeper breaths to help you settle into being here now.

And when you're ready,

Invite an attitude of letting go.

Letting go of control.

Letting things be as they are.

Letting go of controlling your experience.

Let your awareness be open and receptive and without an agenda.

Not focusing on anything in particular like the breath or sounds or feelings or thinking you have to do things a certain way or be a certain way.

Just let your awareness be open.

Inviting a letting go of controlling your experience or wanting to get somewhere or to get something.

Whatever you're aware of,

Let it come and let it be.

Not struggling with it or feeling you have to do something or change anything.

Just resting in an open,

Non-controlling awareness.

And if you find you get pulled into anything,

For example,

Worried thoughts about the future or plans or memories or a feeling of discomfort or a judgment,

Make space for that thought or that feeling or that emotion.

Let it come and let it go.

And come back to rest in this open,

Non-controlling awareness.

Let everything that's present be here without rejecting it or holding onto it or judging it.

Just experience it as life expressing itself.

Not in any way a problem.

And you might notice that your awareness knows this experience without being swept up in it.

That the experience is not who you are,

But a passing phenomenon or experience.

Just resting in awareness and allowing what's here to be here to come and go without getting into a struggle or a fight with your experience.

Just notice what happens when you meet your experience in this way.

Peace is this moment without judgment,

This moment in the heart space where everything that is,

Is welcome.

As from the poet Dorothy Hunt.

That was the more articulated version of the Dao's 'let go'...more specific for times like now when I think I should change the crankiness of 3 hours in rush hour traffic right past dinner hour. I thought perhaps I should get the crankiness under control before trying to meditate. Turns out I didn't have to. Thanks, Hugh
