We're not careful.
We can get disconnected from nature and spend a lot of time living in our heads and forgetting that we're connected to everything and everyone and how we act,
What we think,
What we say,
What we do affects not only ourselves but everybody that we come into contact with directly or indirectly.
So when we meditate we become more aware of our thoughts and become aware of when we're going into a reactive mode.
So that's one of the reasons I'm passionate about meditation because over the years it's helped me to become kinder to myself and then that has a beneficial effect on the other people around me.
You want now to take a moment to go and turn off any distractions and get yourself into a comfortable position like a candle if you want and then when you're ready feel into the body just notice how you're feeling right now become aware of the breath and if you wish you may close your eyes there will be no music in this meditation and also pauses for you to connect with your direct experience and just notice the breath keep it simple feeling the movement of the body with each in-breath and out-breath and notice how you're feeling right now being aware of the support of the chair or the ground beneath you remembering that you have a body as well as a mind and if any emotions come up notice where you feel those in the body too notice where you feel those in the body too notice where there's any tension any holding on and if you wish you might choose just to relax a little bit more as much as feels safe for you and just notice where you feel those in-breath and out-breath any time your mind wanders off reconnect with the support of the ground whether that's through the sitting bones or the legs or the feet coming back to the present moment feeling the breath and if any tension has crept back in usually in the jaw or the shoulders or anywhere else you might just want to relax again while keeping the awareness on the breath if you get caught up in thinking notice what took your attention away from the present did you go off into the future or back into the past becoming aware of your tendencies and then bringing the awareness back to the breath the thoughts may still carry on in the background you're not giving any energy to them sitting here in this present moment feeling the body breathing maybe you might notice the mind starts to settle a little bit but if it doesn't that's okay too so the main thing is just not to get caught up in the thoughts and become aware when you are distracted by them and it doesn't mean that you can't meditate it just means that you noticed and now being aware of the sense of touch the sensation of your clothes your hands the parts of your body in contact with the support the temperature of the air against your skin anything else you can perceive through the sense of touch and now being aware of the sense of sound inner sounds,
The breath any other sounds they're ringing in the ears,
The bodily noises as well as external sounds in the environment notice without judging and then being aware of the sense of taste and smell and even if there's nothing notice that too then finally we come to the sense of sight even if your eyes are closed having an awareness of light and then gently opening your eyes and taking in the external environment and gently orienting yourself in your surroundings of course you can sit on for longer if you wish but don't go rushing into the next thing go gently ease yourself into the day into the week into the month and i'll see you again very soon and in the meantime take care go well and lots of love
