In these times of geopolitical upheaval, social media addiction, information overload, and sensory overwhelm, we need to take some time now and again to come back to our senses, to defragment our hard drives, and to just be present with what is here in the moment. To do just this, join me for this brief meditation that brings us back to our center, to presence, and stillness. Image: Getty

So let's land here and we're not going to meditate thinking we're going to meditate leads into all kinds of strange mental behavior so let's instead just do nothing for a few moments and notice that there's no specific mindset needed to enter into this non-meditation meditation and just naturally let doing nothing turn into observing what is happening when we do nothing if you are wearing glasses it can be pleasant to take them off to allow your face to relax a little bit more easily and with or without glasses just become a bit more aware of your face and see that you can relax the muscles,

The skin,

The tissues of the face and just allow that all to release into the gentle pull of gravity most of us habitually hold some tension in our face and it's just very pleasant to allow that to sink down to press the pause button on this facial machinery that we use to interact to interface with other humans that we meet all day long and allow with your out-breath this relaxation to also extend and go down to your shoulders letting your shoulders relax down and just letting your entire body relax as much as is available right now so just take a few breaths in that openness and relaxation as you're allowing this relaxation to take hold of your body and for this meditation specifically i want to invite us to intentionally step away from all the geopolitics that we are bombarded with and the information overload that we receive to the digital screens throughout the day so just set that aside and instead let's be present with what's actually in reach of our sense organs for the duration of this meditation so if you have your eyes open you can without focusing sharply just allow the visual inputs to color your experience and if you have your eyes closed maybe the first contact with your surroundings is more like the very subtle feeling of air that touches your skin or your buttocks on the chair or the cushion that you're sitting on so instead of grasping the surface of your body you're actually grasping the surface of your mind you're grasping with the senses for new experience or instead just allow the senses to be in a state of passive reception can you taste the stillness and the silence of this process of being with what is actually here in this moment and maybe for you your mind is actually very active or maybe there's some discomfort or pain in your body and whatever that may be can you for a few moments as an experiment just completely allow it to be even if it's uncomfortable or stressful but just for the duration of this meditation can you completely surrender to what is there in your field of perception in your body it's there anyway so let's practice this so let's practice this acceptance and presence for a few more minutes in silence letting our senses be receptive and relaxed trusting the body to be upheld by the bones in the body while the soft tissue is allowed to relax down to gravity you and trust also that by sitting and accepting in this way that the hard drive of our mind will be defragmented so for a few more minutes let's practice this in silence and then very slowly without suddenly changing anything i want to invite you back to where you were before the meditation and so this is the official end of the meditation but if you maybe want to stay a while with your eyes closed take a few extra moments i'd love for you to do that and otherwise you're welcome back thank you

Really nice guidance, Hans! Just unplugging is the prime part of meditating! Thank you! Have a wonderful day. Donna
