Hi,
I'm Graeme Dexter with a short droplet of wisdom.
I call this one,
What's Worth Believing and What's Not.
One of my favourite sayings is,
Hold only the belief that serves you best.
I know it's not always easy to hold on to the beliefs,
Especially when you're unsure how true they are,
But they are brilliant assets to daily life.
A few years ago I had a colleague who appeared each morning with a long face and depressive attitudes.
When I sought out his belief state,
I was not surprised to hear that he believed that everything that could go wrong will probably do so.
Now I agree that sometimes things do go wrong,
And sometimes it's useful to see the possible problems or issues that might hinder the day.
And yet it had a depressing and energy sapping effect on my colleague.
I remember a time when I worked in a drug and alcohol rehab unit as a nurse.
My colleagues were pretty fed up with the managers of the unit,
And specifically fed up with not getting paid properly or on time.
I supplied them with these beliefs and urged them to say to themselves on their way to work,
Today will be a great day.
We'll be appreciated by the managers today.
My colleagues rely on me.
My colleagues trust me.
My colleagues like me.
I like them.
And I'll enjoy working with them today.
As the days and weeks progressed,
I noticed a much happier group of nurses.
Smiles on their faces as they greeted me.
And soon enough,
They did get greater recognition and appreciation from the managers.
When I left,
They gave me a card which simply said,
Believe the beliefs that serve you well.
I do.
Thanks for listening to this Droplet of Wisdom.
