Welcome to your body.
This meditation is a practice to help you connect with your ancestors,
The ones who are no longer with us in body form.
So often in grief we feel so lonely.
And what I found is that developing and attuning to an ancestral connection can be a really deep source of comfort,
Safety,
And knowing,
Even as you struggle to carry your broken heart.
So I invite you to take your time and make sure you have plenty of space around you to move.
If there's an image or a picture or an object that you'd like to keep close that helps you tap into the ancestor or ancestors you'd like to connect with.
Take your time to set up your space.
And you can start in any position that helps you feel alert,
Maybe seated,
Maybe even standing,
Alert and receptive at the same time.
And start by tuning into the feeling of the earth,
The surface beneath your body.
Just breathing into whatever sensations are here.
And knowing that as you connect to the earth,
That you are held,
Supported,
And connected to forces greater than you.
You are not alone.
And as you tune into the earth from this place of receptivity,
Focus on your heart space.
And gently and fully send your breath to your heart.
It might be helpful to place a hand over your heart space.
Maybe one in the front and one in the back if that's accessible.
So you can really feel your breath in all directions.
Feeling your awareness of your heart expand.
And feeling how your connection to the earth supports this opening.
Allowing throughout this practice any sensations,
Any sounds,
Any movement.
Allow them to take up space.
Your body knows what to do.
Let it do its thing.
And as you breathe into your heart space,
I invite you to call to mind an image.
The face of someone that you want to connect with.
Someone who's no longer here in body form.
Could be a friend,
A parent,
A sibling,
A grandparent or aunt or uncle.
It could be someone farther back that you don't know,
That you don't have a face for,
But whose energy you want to call in.
However it comes to you,
Let their presence in.
Allow this image,
This energy to really be here.
And really receive them with your heart.
Maybe feel the space that they take up in you,
Around you.
Maybe you see their body in relationship to your body,
Maybe not.
There is no right or wrong way to experience this.
This is your body.
This is your ancestor.
However they come to you is exactly right.
Continue to breathe into your heart.
And if there's any questions or anything that you want to say to them,
Let that arise from your body.
Maybe you ask or speak out loud.
Maybe simply ask in your mind.
Simply letting your body be a part of this connection,
Giving yourself permission to move,
Change position,
Change direction.
Ancestors are in spirit form,
So they move much more freely and fluidly than we do.
And oftentimes connecting into movement in these practices can actually help increase this relationship.
Can help fortify this connection that you desire.
Feel the answers or responses in your body.
Notice what happens to your heart.
Simply let this be a conversation,
An intuitive back and forth.
Know that it may not be a verbal one.
It may be in sound,
Sensation,
Image,
Even smell or taste.
Try to open yourself up to all the ways of experiencing the one or the ones who came before you.
And really trusting any inclinations,
Any messages,
Any wisdom that comes through.
Really have your time together.
Have your experience.
Notice what it feels like in your body to be with this ancestor.
Really letting your body express itself in whatever way it needs to.
This is sacred time.
You can stay here as long as you need to.
When you're ready to return.
Take your time.
Come back to the feeling of the earth beneath your body.
Back to the feeling of your skin against your clothing.
Come to a self embrace,
Giving yourself a gentle hug.
And you might imagine that you're also hugging the ancestor that came through today,
Sending them off with love,
With so much tenderness for both of you.
And really taking all the movement,
All the time,
All the space that you need to come back.
Slowly,
Slowly,
Only opening your eyes when you're ready.
Going deep,
Allowing yourself to recalibrate slowly,
To let the sensations and anything that came through really circulate fully.
It might be helpful to take a moment and journal or draw anything that wants to come out in response.
And know that this connection that you have with this ancestor is always here,
Can always be activated and returned to sending you so much love.
