This is a meditation and movement practice to help you connect with and soften your heart space in grief, to the background of nature. This is often the first area that we close in grief as a form of self-protection, and this practice will help you stay soft even while carrying your broken heart.

Welcome to your body.

This is a practice to help you connect with your heart and grief.

This is often the hardest thing to do.

And it's a brave act of vulnerability and softness.

So take your time to get comfortable.

You might sit,

You might lie down.

Whatever position really helps you access your heart space.

If you're lying down,

You might even put pillows behind you on the back of your heart.

And wherever you are,

Take several breaths to arrive,

To let the day go,

To let the future go.

Breathing into your belly,

Into your lungs,

And into your heart.

Right away noticing any parts of your body that feel tense or constricted.

Take a moment to move in any way that feels good,

Any way that helps you settle in.

Perhaps rolling your head or moving your shoulders or unclenching your jaw.

Whenever you arrive,

I invite you to place a hand on your heart.

Maybe the other hand goes to your heart as well.

Maybe it goes to your belly or your leg or the ground.

And just feel into your heart.

Life is the act of carrying around a broken heart.

And oftentimes we spend a lot of energy distracting ourselves and turning away from the pain that we carry.

But the pain needs us to be with it in order to move through,

In order to become who we must be after loss.

Breathe into this hand over your heart,

Both into the front and into the back of your heart.

You might notice some intuitive movement beginning,

Some swaying or a rocking perhaps.

You might even come to rest the back of your heart on the couch or the wall or a tree.

Letting the support hold you,

Letting your weight sink into it.

Do your best to breathe into the sensations that you feel without going into the story of how they came to be.

Try to just be with your body as it is.

Try to be with your heart as it flows,

Inviting any sound,

Any tears,

Anything at all to release and continuing to invite any intuitive movement that wants to come.

Perhaps you keep your hand or hands over your heart,

And perhaps they come to an opening position if you're feeling very brave.

Know that just this position of opening your arms so your heart is exposed,

Just this as brave.

You might come to close it again,

Wrapping your arms around yourself.

You might start to move back and forth between this opening and closing,

Following your own rhythm here,

Your own guidance.

Doing any other movement that calls to you,

Anything that feels nourishing,

Anything that helps you feel connected to your heart,

To all the love and the depth and the feeling that lives there.

Noticing if there's other parts of your body that start to close down even as you open your heart,

Often the jaw will tighten,

The womb or lower belly area will tighten.

Do your best to let the whole body be soft,

Be receptive,

Be fluid.

And continuing to breathe.

Continuing to rock,

Continuing to move,

Continuing to let your heart be as it is.

And allowing your sensations to guide you to the movement or to the stillness that your heart really needs right now.

And as you're ready,

Really taking your own time to come back to your hand or your hands on your heart,

Coming to pause,

And taking several breaths to guide yourself back to your space,

To the earth beneath you.

Opening your eyes if they're not already and just noticing what has shifted.

Giving thanks to your heart for all that it holds and giving thanks to your body for carrying you through.

Thank you so much for joining me today.

Lots of love.
