Hi,
It's Brooks and it's good to be here with you.
Today we're going to let go of the year 2020.
I find that it's good at the end of the year to let go of the year.
And that includes the positives as well as the negatives.
Experiences that felt good and experiences that hurt in one way or another.
And the reason why it's beneficial is it lets go of things that basically we don't need anymore to create space for things that will serve us.
So I'd like you to find a comfortable place to sit or to lie down.
And if you'd like to you can close your eyes and feel that breath come in and the breath go out.
Breath comes in and the breath goes out.
The body's really good at letting go.
The body takes in fresh oxygen and it releases carbon dioxide and things that it doesn't need anymore.
It leaves the body.
It expels them from the body like throwing out the trash.
It breathes in fresh oxygen and then releases what it doesn't need.
So the body's a really good role model for letting go.
And in the same way I'd like to encourage you to consider letting go of this past year with each breath.
And again this includes the things that you didn't like and the things that you liked.
Breath comes in and the breath goes out.
You know,
Sometimes we want to hold on to stuff that we like because it feels good to feel good,
You know.
But I like to think of it as,
You know,
If you have a really good meal and it was delicious,
Well once you're done with it,
You're done.
So you let it go.
That meal is done.
And it creates space for future delicious meals,
You know.
And also sometimes too we can hang on to things that hurt because we get scared and we think if we hold on to that fear about something that we're protected by doing that.
Just keep remembering something that's scary to us or that was,
You know,
Memories of something that was really hard for us.
We feel like in some way that it's protecting us.
But it's actually clutter because we keep re-experiencing that fear and it's exhausting to us.
And when we let it go,
We have more space within us to deal with anything that might be difficult.
If and when that happens.
So you breathe in and you breathe out.
As you breathe out,
You release.
You release the air.
You release the memories.
You release the weight of the air.
I encourage when I'm working with clients,
I encourage them as they're letting go of clutter in their lives.
I tell them that they don't have to fill their lives up with things right away.
It's okay to get rid of something and then have that open space.
That feeling of openness.
Sometimes we're not used to that feeling of openness and we want to get something and put it in there right away.
But it's actually okay to feel that,
In a sense,
That open nothingness.
There's a vitality to it,
That sense of open space.
That feeling of potential.
It's alive,
Even though there's nothing in it.
So as we let go of the year 2020,
We can notice and focus on and enjoy that space.
Not adding anything to it.
Space is very restorative.
It's very healing.
It has vitality in it.
It's very kind to us.
The great thing is we have no idea what the next year is going to bring us.
That's why by letting go of the previous year,
This past year,
We don't carry our fears with us into the next year.
We're open.
Open to what life brings us.
Knowing life,
The way life seems to work,
Life brings us pleasurable experiences and painful experiences.
It seems to be an equal dose.
When we come into a year with that kind of openness,
We'll see what life brings us.
We can have an excitement about that coming year.
And we can be refreshed and open.
And by doing that,
We have a lot of clarity and awareness.
And presence.
And that's a wonderful way to live life.
So we're going to end our meditation now.
Stretch.
Open your eyes.
Look around the room.
So I wish you the best in this new year coming up.
And take care.
Bye.
