There's a Taoist story of a man who was running from his shadow.
And every time he looked back,
The shadow was right there on his heels.
He thought that the only way to get rid of it was to run faster.
So he picked up the pace,
Ran and ran his whole life,
Until one day he dropped to his knees in exhaustion,
Never realizing the shadow would go away if only he would stop and step into the shade.
If only for a few minutes,
Don't run away or make yourself busy.
No longer avoid or ignore what is within you.
Sit down.
Keep moving.
Take a seat in a chair,
On your bed,
Or even a cushion.
Go for comfort and settle in.
Once you are positioned,
Keep your eyes open,
Yet soften your gaze.
Look at nothing in particular,
But see everything around you.
Let this seeing stir your awareness and realize how you fit into the world around you.
Exhale.
Close your eyes.
Feel your consciousness sink down,
Down,
And down.
Let your awareness suspend in the belly of your being.
Focus now on your breathing.
Secure in its subtle moving.
The first few moments don't do anything,
But rather feel everything.
In the stillness and the silence,
Just listen.
Day knitting.
Yes,
First try and understand yourself before you begin to change yourself.
You see there must be a revelation before you can have a revolution.
Stillness reveals what is here,
Right now.
Whereas moving reveals what was or could be.
Thinking on past or future.
In a way,
Silence helps you step into your own shadow.
Through self-observation,
See what is hidden under your thoughts.
Behind your pretenses,
Within your heart.
And like sitting in a forest,
The longer you stay and the stiller you become,
The more nature will reveal itself to you.
Be patient.
Flattered Obamacare.
