Move from taking to giving,
From transaction to trust,
From consumer to contributor.
When we learn to have less wants,
Greeds,
And needs,
There's more space to do good deeds.
This meditation is all about generosity.
Hello everyone,
My name is Mackenzie.
Welcome.
I'm honored to be your guide today.
Thank you for being here.
Make yourself comfortable in a sitting position.
As David G.
Says,
Comfort is queen.
So spend some extra time making your sacred space super cozy.
Remember you can adjust at any moment,
As this is not an exercise in enduring pain.
You're not a bad meditator if you need to move.
Let go of shoulds,
Coulds,
And woulds.
Relax.
Climb your seat,
Breathe in,
And breathe out.
Close your eyes.
Withdraw your awareness from external exploration to internal excavation.
Feel your body.
Notice your thoughts.
Observe your natural respiration.
Wrap your awareness around your breath like a thread,
A loop,
Or knot.
Holding you here and now in the present moment.
Ponder what generosity means to you.
Do you believe sharing is caring?
Do you believe the phrase,
Less is more?
Do you think you have to have something before you can give anything away?
As you sit,
Anchored in awareness of breathing,
Witness your silent answers bubble up to the surface of your mind.
Dhanah is the Pali word for generosity.
It is the first virtue taught by the Buddha as a prerequisite to meditation.
Generosity is wealth.
It means you believe in abundance,
That there's enough to go around.
Giving develops faith.
That what you give,
You actually get back.
It strengthens trust with others,
Believing we are meant to take care of one another.
So generosity is the foundation in which expressing daily acts of kindness becomes the springboard from which your meditation blossoms.
Notice the space behind your eyes,
Between your ears.
The mind,
Your brain,
The center of your wisdom,
Your intuition.
Plant the powerful reminder,
I have everything I need.
I give it my best.
Carry your consciousness down into the jaw,
Throughout the throat,
Into the cavity of your chest,
Behind ribs,
Behind lungs,
The center of your heart.
Plants the powerful reminder,
What goes around,
Comes around.
Even further,
Travel down the mysterious belly,
The bowl of the pelvis,
The space of solar plexus,
The area of root,
Safety,
Security.
Plant the powerful reminder,
What's mine is yours.
The hemisphere,
The galaxy.
.
.
No need to fabricate a certain feeling,
A certain emotion.
Planting these phrases is more than enough.
Ask yourself,
Is my meditation,
My yoga,
Really working when I remain short in temper,
Stingy with money,
Or quick to turn a blind eye to someone who obviously needs my help?
Hear this,
If nothing else.
Generosity is calling you to be more than 15 minutes on your meditation cushion.
But be a living,
Breathing,
Walking,
Human of love,
Ambassador of kindness.
Take a deep breath in.
A complete breath out.
As you blink your eyes open,
Don't let this practice end.
Commit to extending generosity off of your cushion.
Be generosity.
Be Donna embodied.
Throughout the rest of your day,
May you more freely share your time,
Energy,
Knowledge,
And patience with others.
Namaste.
