This particular practice uses the technique of Metta (loving-kindness) for self, friend, and a familiar stranger to help see through cravings. When we feel lost in desire, we fear losing what we already have and not getting what we want. This practice helps us remember our shared desire for happiness and well being. Finish feeling stronger than your cravings, soothed by metta, connected with yourself and others.

Hello,

Honey child.

I'm so happy you're here.

Metta or loving kindness technique has many benefits.

It can help you sleep deeply and wake easily.

And when practiced regularly,

Other people,

Animals,

And even angels will be drawn to you.

You will become full of beauty.

Your face will shine with love for yourself and others.

Find a quiet place.

Sit down.

Close your eyes.

As a tortoise withdraws its limbs into a protective shell,

Cover yourself in quiet.

A silent lightats the Aaron lit.

Notice body.

Feel breathing.

Witness thinking.

In this moment,

Right now,

What cravings are present?

Do you desire your body to feel a different way?

Or do you hope a blissful feeling will stay?

Honestly ask yourself,

Are these what ifs blinding you to what is?

Do you desire your body to feel a different way?

The Buddha said craving brings anxiety and fear.

You see,

Desire traps us in a cyclical pattern.

A vortex.

We are lost in fear of losing what we already have and fear of not getting what we want.

That is why desire is considered an obstacle to metta.

It is also called the near enemy because craving can masquerade as metta.

In other words,

Desire pretends to be love.

Don't be fooled,

Friend.

Desire is narrow.

It's because of our attachments to what we think we must have in order to be happy that our lives feel constricted.

Metta is open,

Free like the wind.

It is our WW Eventually.

How is it that we become desireless?

How can we lessen the ache of craving?

Hear this.

Practice simplicity and then generosity.

Reflect on happiness.

Ask yourself,

What do I truly need to be happy?

Witness your personal answers and bubble up to the surface of your mind.

Now repeat simple phrases of well-being to yourself.

May I be safe.

May I be happy in body and mind.

May I feel peace.

Now share those simple wishes for happiness.

Give them to a person you cherish,

Someone you love and appreciate.

See their face in your mind.

May you be safe.

May you be happy in body and mind.

May you feel peace.

Extend it even further now to a familiar stranger.

Traditionally called the neutral person,

Bring to mind someone whom you haven't formed an immediate like or dislike for.

Someone you see occasionally.

Practice their presence and send them kind wishes.

May you be safe.

May you be happy in body and mind.

May you feel peace.

Allow meta these phrases of loving kindness to be a soothing balm over the cuts from desire and craving.

Did you see we all just want to be happy?

Use these simple phrases to help you see through the delusions of your ever-changing desires.

May your generosity inspire you to feel connected to yourself,

People that you know and people that you don't.

Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

Open your eyes,

Awake in clear thinking,

Free from craving.

Namaste.

I have to admit I miss judged this session. For some reason, purple hair and the music box bell sound at the beginning made me skeptical about the quality of this meditation. The content, however, was spot on. This is a very well lead meditation on craving, as advertised! The teacher captures the concepts of craving in a way that led to a deeper feeling of metta and insights on my own clinging to desire. Doesn’t get much better than that. As a bonus, I’m also led to introspect on my judgment, apparently :-) sorry, and thank you for the great meditation.
