This meditation builds upon metta meditation. Together we use awareness of sound, touch, taste and smell to anchor in awareness. From there, we give loving-kindness first to ourself. Then we offer the same to someone we respect- traditionally referred to as "the benefactor." This work helps you expand in your awareness and deepen your consciousness. Finish feeling bigger than your small thinking, spacious enough to withstand the salt that life throws at you.

Hello there,

I'm so happy you're here with me.

Come into a seat of comfort.

Relax your physical eyes.

Hear the buzz of life in your environment.

Become aware of sounds like the humming of house or building.

Distant cars.

Voices far away.

Or hear the emptiness,

The fullness of silence.

Now,

Feel the touch of your body.

The weight of clothes on skin.

The temperature of air around you.

The support of grounds beneath you.

Now taste and smell.

Breathe in aroma.

Smells lingering.

Triggers remembering.

And taste inside your mouth.

Saliva forming.

You're alive in so many ways.

Your senses always color your world,

This time be totally aware of it.

Notice your thinking.

Thought bubbles rising up to the surface.

Observe space between thoughts.

Realize space underneath thought.

In that space,

Breathe.

Commander,

You have healthier control.

Whisper to yourself phrases of metta.

May I be free from danger.

May I have mental happiness.

May I have physical happiness.

May I have ease of wellbeing.

May I be filled by the you you Imagine a cup of water a Teaspoon of salt is poured into the cup Turning the water incredibly salty Undrinkable Now imagine a cup of water the size of Lake Superior The very same teaspoon of salt would have little effects on water of that volume This practice of Metta loving kindness Helps your awareness get bigger As your insides become more spacious You have more room to accept the salt that life gives you Even When the salt remains the same the spaciousness of the vessel receiving it Changes everything So bring to mind someone you respect Or have gratitude for You Preferably someone who is still alive and whom you have no sexual desire for Share Metta with this benefactor Just as I want to be happy So do you May you be happy And say the phrase as if holding a fragile object in your hand Not too tight and not too loose You See your awareness is widening The edges of your consciousness are expanding You are able to hold more in your heart on purpose Salt will come But you are vast and can withstand it Don't shrink choose to be big You may share love and kindness more easily with others Namaste
