Hello and welcome.
First find a comfortable place to sit.
Or someplace to recline,
Supporting the head and knees.
Your chin slightly elevated.
Perhaps lying on your side is the most comfortable.
Beginning with your eyes open.
Finding a spot in front of you.
Perhaps it's on the wall or out the window.
Or perhaps you're outside.
Bringing your eyes now to rest softly on that spot.
No need to strain.
Just allowing it to be effortless.
Focusing with ease into the vision as if dissolving into the scenery.
The eyes remaining comfortably still.
Allowing the peripheral vision to slowly widen.
Taking in more of the environment around you.
Noticing your field of awareness expanding as it moves outward.
Keeping the focus where it is.
The peripheral vision enveloping all that there is.
Becoming present to the outermost reaches of the field of vision.
And once the furthest reach has been discovered,
Taking a deep breath.
And as you let it go,
Gently allowing the eyes to close.
Bringing awareness to the sounds around you.
And perhaps noticing a deeper sense of relaxation than before.
Present to the sensations in the body.
And just feeling the openness here.
And in this openness,
Gently bringing awareness now to the heart.
Checking in.
Listening.
Feeling whatever is here.
Connecting with this experience.
You might find the more that you relax and soften,
The more you can experience.
One of the images that helps to create an inner feeling of wonder and openness is that of a smile.
Beginning to engage the inner eyes.
Starting with the sense of a smile.
Now listening to all the sounds around you.
What if one of them was the sound of your baby?
Noticing the gentle touch of the clothing on your skin.
What if there was new life cradled in your arms?
Allowing an image to begin forming of your baby in your arms for the very first time.
Comforted by the familiar sound of your heartbeat and the gentle warmth of your skin.
Imagine as you hold this new life,
Your senses opening.
Hearing the voice softly calling.
The scent of the baby.
The suppleness of the skin.
The warmth of the touch.
The heart brimming.
Connecting with your child in this moment.
Noticing how the awareness of your baby feels.
Relaxing deeper into this moment.
Letting the attention rest with the sense of your baby.
As you touch,
Smell,
Feel,
Hear.
See your baby for the first time.
Perhaps there is a kind of receptivity to the resting body.
A loving connection with you here and now.
Noticing a release in the shared togetherness.
You may sense an easing of tension as your awareness rests in the space between your touch and the baby's skin.
Taking this time to connect with your baby.
Staying in this loving union.
Noticing your focus moving deeper into the connection you share.
Perhaps your baby's voice has a feeling in it.
Listen to the sounds.
Staying and taking this time to meditate on these first precious moments of new life.
Being fully in this experience.
Not opposing or stopping anything.
Present to your baby and the sensations in your heart.
You might notice the sensations this moment creates in the body.
Being aware of how it feels to connect with the life you're nurturing.
Just allowing feelings to occur spontaneously.
Receptive to whatever arises.
And while you might think your mood is clear,
You're wrong.
Let's take a moment of silence.
If you would like to continue dwelling in a place of inner receptivity,
Please feel free to do so.
Or if you would like,
Concluding,
Opening your eyes and taking with you the image and feeling of the first moment you will share with your baby.
