I Waited For Him To See Me

This is a short poem about waiting for someone to see you. Waiting for the validation from someone else and waiting for permission to be accepted. I wanted it to reflect the beauty of stepping into yourself and seeing yourself first, showing up for yourself first, inspiring yourself first - and what happens when you do embrace all that makes you, you. I waited for him to understand what I felt.

I waited for him to see what only I could.

But the longer I waited,

The more I lost myself in the need for permission.

So instead of waiting,

I started inspiring.

I gave myself the permission to be who I wanted to be,

And realized I could validate myself.

So I stepped into my own truth,

One breath,

One beat,

One foot at a time.

With that confidence and conviction,

I no longer needed him to see me.

And all of a sudden,

He saw everything.

I love this so much. No matter how much work I do I continue to keep seeking outside validation and when I don’t get it, I get upset at them, blame them, and then end up isolating and feeling depressed.

I first heard this about 4 years ago and it resonated so loudly, I had just spent 2 years getting to that point in my self awareness and it was beautiful for it to be echoed in your words. - I listened to it again today and it reminded me of how far I’ve come on my journey and how freeing it has been since I just stepped into myself and let the rest of the preconditioned notions of gaining approval or outside acceptance fall away.
