I'm Don Joseph Goey,
The author of The End of Stress,
And I'm here to offer you a tool that can get you through a situation when it requires the power of attitude to get through it successfully.
We all have people or situations in our lives that we perceive as dreadful or aggravating or even intimidating.
There is a tool that can help you reframe a difficult situation like that by infusing it with a positive attitude that accentuates your inner peace.
The tool is called pre-attitude and it's conducted prior to entering what may be a difficult situation.
The aim is to invoke in you the attitude that offers the best chance for a successful outcome.
This tool is extremely helpful when you have to face a situation where you typically become anxious and stressed,
Such as giving a presentation or being evaluated by your boss or dealing with a person you perceive as difficult.
Please do not conduct this exercise while driving a car or operating machinery.
You will also need to find a quiet private place where you can sit,
So pause the recording while you locate that place.
Let's begin.
I invite you to recall a specific place or time when you felt happy and peaceful.
Remember that time.
Bring that happy,
Peaceful feeling to life by remembering anything particular,
Such as the weather,
The surroundings,
The period of the day,
Or who you were with.
As this happy,
Peaceful state comes into focus,
Allow it to lift your mind with the good feeling it produces.
Relax into feeling good.
Allow this feeling to form your attitude as you look out on the world.
Sense the shift in consciousness this generates in you.
Now bring to mind the situation you perceive as dreadful or intimidating,
And imagine you are in that situation right now.
And bring the peaceful,
Happy attitude you just invoked into this situation.
See yourself at peace,
Confident,
Optimistic,
And energetic.
Imagine as you engage the situation you are absolutely present.
You sense and awake a live stillness within you.
You are open-minded,
Not so focused on the outcome that it pulls you away from the peace you feel.
Imagine that you feel increasingly larger than the situation simply because you are no longer afraid of it.
If this involves other people,
Imagine that you don't abandon your sense of personal power.
Rather see yourself able to communicate what you want to say,
And able to listen carefully to what they have to say,
With no antagonism towards anyone.
Imagine that as you settle into this state of heightened awareness,
The situation is no longer stressful,
But is actually becoming enjoyable.
What you are enjoying is not really the task,
But rather this positive inner dimension of consciousness that flows into what you are doing.
Now open your eyes.
And as you open your eyes,
Make a positive peaceful attitude your primary aim as you approach whatever you have to do.
