Hello everybody.
This is Emily Martin and we are going to do a New Year's meditation to get us in the right mindset and heart set for 2022.
So find yourself in a comfortable position.
I'm sitting on my cushion but you can be lying down,
You can be walking.
Just want your back to be straight.
The goal with meditation is to be alert but relaxed,
At ease,
Calm,
But aware and awake.
So if you'd like you can close your eyes.
We're going to start with three breaths,
Breathing in through our nose and out through our mouth.
I invite you to do a quiet check in with yourself by greeting your head,
Your heart,
And your body.
We're going to start by bringing to mind some act of generosity that either you experienced as a giver or as the receiver in 2021.
So look back at the year,
Doesn't have to be the biggest thing,
It could be a small thing,
But just bring into your heart and mind some act of generosity.
Perhaps you gave something freely and abundantly that felt really good.
Someone or something was appreciative.
Or perhaps you were on the receiving end.
Someone gave you something freely and abundantly and you experienced that generosity.
So take a moment or a few breaths to reflect.
Once you have the scenario,
The memory,
Just rest in it.
So call it to mind,
Bring it into your heart,
Mind space.
See if you can feel in your body and your heart and your mind that experience of gratitude once again.
Okay.
I want you to trace that gratitude back one step.
So if you received something from someone,
I want you to think about that other person.
Just notice that connection between the two of you.
Perhaps there was a community involved,
Multiple people working together.
Now imagine if that one other person or that group of people,
If they were to do this reflection about something good,
Some act of generosity that touched them in 2021,
They were to do this exercise.
They would be connected to even more people,
Different scenarios,
Different memories,
Different acts of goodness and kindness and connection.
Just imagine them and their experience with generosity.
And imagine that second order connection and their experience with touching human goodness,
Kindness.
You can zoom out and look down at your town and the connections there and your state and your country and global community.
Just rest in knowing that every day,
Every moment,
Every moment there are countless experiences of love and connection.
And let's take a moment to wish all of these people,
These sentient beings across the globe loving kindness.
So gently,
Quietly repeat after me,
May you be well,
May you be happy,
May you know love,
May you know peace.
I want you to imagine being the recipient of that same meta or loving kindness.
May I be well,
May I be happy,
May I know love,
May I know peace.
Say goodbye to 2021 and enter into a new calendar year of 2022.
I invite you to bring that feeling of gratitude and trust,
Reciprocity,
Ease,
Connection,
Global connection,
Global love into 2022.
And you just take a few moments to set an intention or to rest in that feeling of connection.
Just invite more of that,
More of that goodness and community into 2022.
May 2022 full of gratitude and generosity.
May I know and trust in my goodness and my wholeness.
May I know and trust in the goodness and wholeness of my community,
My friends and of my family,
My town,
My state,
My country,
My global community.
We'll sit in silent meditation for another minute or two and I'll ring the bell to end.
