Many people complain about their overactive mind keeping them awake at night or keeping them from being able to focus on one task at a time.

This guided visualization is intended to help reign that monkey mind in so that you can find some inner peace.

We'll begin by getting centered and grounded into your body to make sure you're sitting comfortably or lying down and become aware of where your body is making contact with your chair or your bed.

And take three deep breaths.

Begin relaxing each part of the body,

Your toes,

Your ankles,

Your muscles,

Your knees,

Relax your thigh muscles and your belly.

Relax the chest and your shoulders.

Relax the upper arms and lower arms,

The hands and the fingers.

Relax the muscles in your back,

The neck,

The jaw,

Maybe wiggle it around.

Relax your tongue.

Relax the eyes and all the muscles around your eyes,

The skin of your forehead.

Begin to imagine in your mind's eye the healing cabinet as you need.

Each drawer,

Your thoughts about a particular topic.

For the top drawer,

The keys,

The lockets,

Imagine opening that.

Reconsidering all the topics as taking up the most space in your mind.

To that drawer,

A to-do list,

Issues at work,

Relationship drama,

Whatever it is.

Pick only one in this top drawer.

Anything is possible in the imagination,

Right?

So just imagine any file folders coming out of the top of your head,

Over into the drawer,

Landing in that top drawer,

Filing those thoughts away for later.

As long as you need to relieve yourself of all the thoughts you have about this particular topic,

Once you feel complete,

You can close and lock that top drawer,

Go into the second drawer,

Lock it,

Open it up,

Bring to mind another topic that is taking up a lot of space in your mind right now,

And begin to send all of the thoughts you have about this new topic into the second drawer.

All of the thoughts.

You can close and lock that second drawer.

If you have a third topic that's taking a lot of mind space right now,

Unlock and open that third drawer,

And begin the process of sending all the thoughts about that third topic into this third drawer.

And once you feel complete,

You can close and lock this third drawer.

And this can be repeated for however many topics there are swirling around in your mind.

This is your filing cabinet in your imagination,

So this cabinet can have as many drawers as you need.

Now as you're releasing these thoughts,

Notice your body becoming lighter,

More relaxed,

Until you feel that you have cleared everything you need to clear.

Once you feel that you do have your mind cleared,

And all of the thoughts are safely locked away in the drawer that they belong to,

I want you to take a very deep breath in,

And exhale out.

This new spaciousness that you just created inside your mind.

If you're wanting to focus on only one topic,

You can go to that filing cabinet and access the one drawer that contains the topic you wish to focus on.

Or,

If you're ready for bed,

And you're wanting to drift off to sleep,

You now have the peace of mind to do so,

Knowing that,

Again,

This is your filing cabinet,

You can access it at any time you need to,

And you have control over which drawer is opened,

And also over how many drawers are opened simultaneously.

Take one more deep breath in together,

May you forever be at peace in your mind.

this was exactly what I needed to help bring myself back to the present when feeling so overwhelmed. not only with an ADHD mind, but decisions and consequences that often feel destabilizing or paralyzing. this meditation helped me to understand that I have the ability to tuck things away and focus on them when the time is right, but not to let them overwhelm me every day of every moment
