Hi,
I'm Fletcher Johnson and today I'd like to do a mindfulness activity about how to taste food.
So you can use your own food for this or just to visualize,
I'll tell you what my inspiration was.
A goat and sheep cheese that was suspended in extra virgin olive oil.
It has peppercorns,
Fresh thyme,
And garlic.
It's creamy,
Tangy,
And texture feels like silk across my palate.
It made me feel ultra luxurious,
Even though I was eating it with a cocktail fork right out of the jar.
It's brininess reminded me of capers and something about it tasted of lemon,
Even though there wasn't any.
And now for your own experience.
Take a nice deep breath.
And take a good look at what you're about to eat.
Close your eyes and inhale its aroma deeply.
What do you notice?
Does your mouth water?
Can you already taste it?
As you put a bite in your mouth,
Hold it there for a second before you begin chewing.
Notice texture,
The initial taste,
And your physical responses.
Slowly begin to chew and just observe.
Chew for as long as possible before swallowing.
Be aware of the changes in texture.
Notice what flavors are present.
Is it sweet?
Salty?
Sugar?
Sour?
Or pungent?
Is the flavor simple or complex?
After you swallow,
Does it leave a certain taste in your mouth?
Take another nice deep breath in and out.
Then go ahead and complete your snack or meal with an open awareness and curiosity.
As you finish this snack,
Go ahead and put together your own little description.
