Hi,
I'm Fletcher and welcome to this blessing of our food.
It's going to be a little different than your typical household prayer.
Start by taking a breath and take a good look at what you're about to eat.
If it contains more than one ingredient,
Just for now,
Focus on one.
Take a moment to think about that ingredient's origins.
For example,
I'm looking at a slice of banana bread and my ingredient is the banana.
I see it hanging from the tree.
I wonder how old is that tree?
Holding the image of the tree and the bananas in my mind,
I thank it for donating its precious fruit to nourish me.
Then take a moment to reflect upon your food's beginnings.
Breathing in and out.
How was that food harvested?
I visualize a man climbing up the banana tree with a large knife,
Cutting down the fruit and piling the clusters into the back of a truck.
What does your food's harvest entail?
Honor this process.
Next comes transportation to the market in which it was purchased.
Thank the Stryver for its time and effort.
Breathe in and out,
Considering its preparations,
Either yours or someone else's.
Honoring that time and energy.
If your meal has more than one ingredient,
You may wish to consider all of these things in its totality.
Breathing in and out once again before your first bite.
Thanking all of this.
