Jai Ma.
Take a moment to settle in.
Release the weight of your body into your bed.
Feel the quietness and sacredness of your space.
This is your moment,
Your time,
Your opportunity to let go and to be held by something ancient and kind.
Soften your gaze and reflect back over your day.
Not to judge or cling,
But to invite each memory to simply float by.
Did you miss a moment or rush past something real,
Something magical?
Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale out your mouth as you let it go.
Make a quiet promise to yourself that tomorrow,
You will be here now.
And for now,
You are enough.
Feel your heart stretch wide,
Expansive like the night sky scattered with a million stars.
Feel your mind,
Body,
And spirit relaxing and ready to receive the gentle healing of sacred sleep.
Notice the gentle darkness of your room,
And the world outside is finally quieted,
Letting you drift towards a subtle blue glow that shimmers just beyond your thoughts.
This is the light of the Medicine Buddha.
He is waiting for you.
Find yourself sitting with him in a forest,
Under a tree,
Under the night sky.
You're sitting with the Medicine Buddha in a silent embrace of the Mahayana tradition.
The Buddha is timeless,
His compassion radiating like a balm for every ache,
Every worry that you've carried throughout your day and throughout your life.
In this stillness,
Before sleep takes you,
You meet the Medicine Buddha,
Ancient and ageless.
He carries 12 vows,
Each one a promise to ease suffering,
Yours and the world's.
Both the pain you show and the pain you hide,
He takes,
He eases.
When shadows gather,
He is with you,
Offering not just wisdom,
But deep relief and release.
See him clearly.
His robe is the color of the midnight sky,
Deep lapis blue.
The color of the coolness before dawn.
In his left hand,
He offers a jar filled with healing nectar,
And then takes some of this amrit,
This healing nectar,
And wipes it softly across your forehead.
Allowing a coolness to enter into your mind and to clear away all your worries.
Begin to breathe this in and feel a lightness across your chest,
Your heart opening freely and expanding with ease.
In his right hand,
He holds a fruit known across the ages for its power to heal.
Feel that you have received this fruit,
You have consumed it,
And this magical healing fruit is traveling through your body,
Healing your cells,
Your blood,
Your bones,
And your heart.
Here with the Medicine Buddha,
Everything is pure,
Uplifted,
And unstained,
Like a blooming lotus floating on the water.
You begin to hear his mantra in the air,
Soft as incense drifting over you.
The rhythm of the mantra circles you,
Soothing you,
Inviting you into peace.
You are invited beyond pain,
Beyond past suffering,
Into something boundless.
You call the Buddha near.
Just calling his name is a remedy in itself.
Maha Bekonse,
He is the greatest healer,
With mercy as wide as the sky.
Ratsa Samudgate,
You're crossing into freedom at last.
Soha,
So it is,
Sealed in faith and trust.
Invite this mantra to loosen your sorrow,
To soften and heal old wounds,
Whether in your body or your heart.
Even stubborn illnesses and grief that clings can yield to the Medicine Buddha's vow.
His greatest blessing is light.
His greatest blessing is the chance to forgive yourself,
To let old regrets drift away so new joy can surface.
As you lie here,
Feel a gentle breeze touch your face,
Like liberation drifting in through your open window.
You can offer this practice for yourself or for someone you love and miss.
This can be human and animal,
Both benefit from the Medicine Buddha and the mantra.
Even a few soft repetitions calm your heart and will sweeten your sleep.
Across the world,
Throughout Tibet,
China,
And Vietnam,
Those in pain call his name,
Praying for relief and making quiet offerings in the night.
Tonight,
If pain lingers,
Your own or the world's pain,
Lay your head in the lap of the Medicine Buddha.
Close your eyes.
With a true heart,
Whisper the mantra.
Let the Medicine Buddha hold you as you drift off,
His promise winding through your dreams,
Freedom from pain,
And a peace that fills every corner of the world.
