Welcome to the Truth Prescription Podcast Meditation Series.
I am your host,
Dr.
Sekou Gathers.
In today's meditation,
We're going to dive into the realm of choices.
And we're going to practice a meditation which you can practice every day for two weeks.
Choices are so critical.
Because our choices inform our actions,
And our actions inform our life.
So I'm going to take you through an exercise that's going to help you make better choices.
So the first thing I would like you to do is find a comfortable place in your home.
But more importantly,
A quiet place.
So if that means the bathroom,
Or if that means going into a remote part of your house,
Or if you live with roommates,
If that means doing this late at night,
Wherever you can be the most comfortable,
The most quiet,
Let's start there.
Sit down.
Place both your feet flat on the floor.
Place both your hands on each lap.
And take a deep breath and hold for four seconds.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Now let it out.
Blow through pursed lips.
We're going to do that again.
But this time we're going to hold for eight seconds.
Breathe in deep through your nose.
Hold.
Let it out.
One last time,
This time we're going to use maximum effort and concentration.
And when you breathe out,
If you need to make a noise,
Make a noise.
But what you would like to do is as you exhale,
You're just letting everything in your body go,
The top of your head,
To your neck,
Your shoulders,
Chest,
Abdomen,
Butt,
Legs,
Feet,
Let everything go.
Last time,
Take a deep breath in.
Hold.
And release.
Now slowly breathe in and breathe out at your own pace,
Remaining as relaxed as possible.
Please close your eyes.
In your imagination,
You're going to see yourself walking through a forest,
A beautiful forest,
Tall trees,
A very light wind.
Birds are chirping.
The sun is out.
It's warm and it's a straight,
Easy path.
Continue to breathe as you walk through this forest.
You're going to come to a point or a fork in the road and you have two directions you can go.
You can either go to your left or you can go to your right.
And as you look into view on the right side,
You can see the same you down there at the end of that path.
You're happy.
You feel alive.
You're eating foods that are great for your body.
You're exercising.
You're communicating your feelings.
You're open and you can see these things.
It seems like a different you.
It's you,
But you seem a little different.
Then you turn your head to the left path in your mind's eye and you look all the way down the path,
Just passing trees and you see yourself sitting down with your arms folded,
Angry.
You're alone.
You're not happy.
It looks like you're eating some food that's not good for your body.
It looks like you're smoking.
It looks like you're drinking in excess.
You're just not feeling good.
You see yourself and as you see yourself down that path,
You start to feel those feelings,
Anger,
Depression,
Fear,
Rage,
Frustration.
Feel yourself eating something,
Whether it's ice cream,
Pizza,
Or drinking a lot of alcohol.
You're doing that to try to stop that feeling that you're having.
Then you look back to the left and you see yourself down there.
You're dancing.
You're smiling.
You're laughing.
You're playing.
You're open.
You're happy.
You feel those things as you see yourself down there.
Your face looks just a little bit brighter.
Now you have a choice.
Which path are you going to go down?
You're going to make your decision in three seconds.
Three,
Two,
One.
Walk.
Now,
Whichever path you chose as you're walking towards it,
Remember that each day we have a choice to choose how we want to feel,
How we want to be.
We are not victims.
We are heroes.
We are champions.
We are God.
Thank you for joining me in this meditation exercise.
