Welcome to the Heart Connect Meditation.
I am Dr.
Sekou Gathers,
Host of the Truth Prescription Podcast.
For the next few minutes,
Find a quiet place where you can sit.
If you live with others,
That may mean going into the bathroom or waking up just a tad bit early to perform this meditation.
Sit with your back erect with both feet flat on the floor and each hand on each thigh.
Start to breathe in through your nose,
Fill your lungs,
And once they're filled,
Breathe out through your mouth.
As you blow out,
Purse your lips slightly just to create a small amount of pressure.
This will help you release more air.
Take five more slow deep breaths,
Expanding your lungs as much as possible,
Breathing out through purse lips.
Now,
Take your right hand and place it gently over your heart area and continue to breathe.
You will feel the beating of your heart strong.
You may also feel a slight buzz around your hand as you connect with it.
Continue to breathe.
Take two more deep breaths.
Now,
Mentally,
As you feel your heart,
Say to your heart,
Thank you.
Thank you for being with me.
Thank you for keeping me alive.
Thank you for helping me to connect with others.
Thank you for allowing me to feel when I can't see.
My heart,
You've been with me since the beginning.
And for that,
I am grateful.
Continue to breathe.
As you feel the connection with your heart strengthening,
You may feel the need to smile.
Do it.
It's okay.
Continue to breathe.
You may even feel the energy of your heart course into your hand,
To your wrist,
To your arm,
Elbow,
Maybe your entire torso.
Just feel it.
Don't judge it.
Take three more deep breaths.
Now place your right hand back onto your right thigh.
One more deep breath.
Hold it for seven seconds.
Now breathe it all out.
Open your eyes.
As you practice this meditation each day,
You may find something special happening.
That's for you to discover.
To give you a hint,
It can be particularly useful during times of stress,
Depression,
Or outright anger,
If you're able to connect in that moment.
That's the purpose of meditation,
Is to practice connecting with different parts of ourselves so we can elevate our energy to the positive at any moment.
That is real power.
