Welcome to Day 1 of Breathe Together With Me Challenge.
I'm so glad you are here.
Today we're going to do a mindful breathing exercise.
Let's take a few moments to bring our attention to our breath.
Our breath is always with us,
Yet we often overlook its presence.
This exercise is about tuning into the sensation of breathing,
Allowing ourselves to be fully present in each inhale and exhale.
Come to a comfortable seated or lying down position.
Make sure your back is straight if you're sitting and the body is as relaxed as possible.
Take a moment to ground yourself into the space you're in by closing your eyes and then noticing the presence of the room around you.
What does the air feel like around your skin?
What does the earth feel like beneath your feet,
On your back and the rest of your body?
Then draw your attention to the natural rhythm of your breath.
Without trying to change it or control it,
Simply practice observing it exactly as it moves in,
In this present moment.
You might notice its pace and depth and allow it.
Simply hold your focus on each breath in and breath out,
And also observing the pause in between the inward and the outward movement.
Now we deepen our breath,
Inhale deeply through your nose,
Feeling the air go into your nostril,
Into your airways,
Into your lungs,
Energising your cells,
Giving your cells energy.
And gently exhale through the nose,
Feeling the release of the tension in your belly.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Let's pay attention to the sensations of your breath.
Notice the coolness of the air as you inhale,
And the warmth as you exhale.
Feeling the rise and the fall of the chest and your belly.
If your mind wanders,
Gently bring it back.
Expand your awareness to include your whole body.
What does your body feel like?
Feel the breath flowing through you,
Energising your cells,
Noticing any areas of tension or relaxation.
And slow breath in,
And slow breath out.
And we practice noticing our breath,
Making sure you breathe in and out through your nose all the time.
We take a moment to express gratitude for your breath.
It sustained you and nourished you,
And it's connecting you to the present moment.
And we take three more breaths in and out.
Taking in and out.
And again,
In and out.
And one more breath in and out.
Enjoying the calm sense that fills your body and your mind.
When you're ready,
Gently open your eyes.
If they were closed,
Take a moment to notice how you feel.
In this exercise,
We've learned to be breath aware,
Paying attention to your breathing.
Remember,
You can always come back to this breathing exercise anytime you feel you need to find a moment of peace and relaxation in your day.
