This is the world of wonder meditation. In it, I invite you to allow the past and the future to fall away, to become insubstantial. I invite you to find a world of wonder in every single moment of your life. I invite you to harness the creative fire that burns within you to create the world you want to come to. The meditation includes readings from The Other Tiger by Jorge Luis Borges and from The Radiance Sutras translated by my teacher Lorin Roche.

Welcome.

This is the World of Wonder Meditation.

All meditations are in some way imaginary journeys.

Journeys of the intellect,

Journeys of the heart.

A journey from the Self to the Self through the Self.

The journey exists in our minds and bodies,

In our nooks and crevices,

In the bright light of day and in the depths of darkness.

Today's meditation is a technique you can call up anytime.

An imaginary journey you can do on your own,

Whenever you need.

I invite you to begin this imaginary meditation journey with a particular imaginary journey.

You might imagine standing outside the door of your house,

Your apartment building,

Outside wherever you are.

You are waiting to enter,

Waiting to pass that imaginary portal.

Imagine as you walk through that doorway that the past falls away,

Memories written in your brain and on your body,

All that has been.

You are still the sum total of all the things you have experienced to this point in your life,

All the things that have marked you,

But the details of those events fade.

The past has gone.

Now imagine entering your room,

The very room in which you now sit.

As you pass that imaginary portal,

The future falls away.

Plans,

Hopes,

Dreams,

Aspirations,

All are carried away by the gentle breeze of your exhale.

The future has gone.

A tiger comes to mind,

Innocent,

Ruthless,

Bloodstained,

Sleek.

It wanders through its forest and its day,

Printing a track along the muddy banks of sluggish streams whose names it does not know.

In its world there are no names,

Or past,

Or time to come,

Only the vivid now.

Here in this moment,

In this vivid now,

You are completely potential.

Everything is potential.

All is to be made.

All is to be created.

You are nothing.

You are everything.

A world sits on the cusp of being.

Imagine yourself on that cusp,

Being,

Perhaps ready to become.

Can you allow yourself to sit comfortably on this ledge of potential?

Can you listen to what is there?

Can you simply be consumed by wonder?

I have been wondering.

I have been listening to the hymns of creation,

Enchanted by the verses,

Yet I am still curious.

What is this delight-filled universe into which we find ourselves born?

What is this mysterious awareness shimmering everywhere within it?

I have been wondering.

Allow yourself to wonder for a time.

Let your meditation be wonder.

Wonder at what might be.

Wonder at limitless potential.

Make yourself one with the fire of creation.

Let yourself touch the heart of wonder,

The path of intimacy with all life,

Weaving together individuality and universality.

The person you are right now,

In this vivid now,

This collection of cells,

This particular set of neural connections,

These muscle cells,

These energies,

This person has never meditated before,

Has never drawn breath before,

Never known the simple joys of breathing.

Until this moment brought you into being,

You have never existed before.

The you from a moment ago is gone.

The you from a moment from now has yet to be created.

All is potential,

Waiting for you,

The Creator.

When you close your eyes,

Attention turns towards the inner glow.

The heart sees by its own light,

Pulsing with subtle flame.

Life arises from itself in a swirling motion of flame.

Being becomes body.

In meditation,

Adore the subtle fire.

In heart,

Head and above,

Dissolved into radiance.

In the vivid now,

Without past,

Without thoughts for the future,

You are a body,

Corporeal,

But with a mind and spirit rising from the web of connections in your head.

Ground yourself in this body,

This lump of clay perched above a sea of potential.

Inhabit it and learn it.

Let your attention roam its corridors,

Stopping to learn whenever the need arises.

This body is sustained by altars to the radiant nectar of life.

Around you,

An ocean of air ready to become your breath.

Above the head,

The flow of an invisible sun.

Within the spaciousness of the heart,

A pulsing throb of creation,

Where the breaths meet,

Fuse and transform into each other.

Whenever,

Wherever your mind wanders,

Whatever you wonder,

Return to the luminous,

Choose any altar.

Throw your attention again and again into one of these centers where spirit and flesh consummate their love.

Day by day,

Old whirlpools fade,

The endless circles.

You are living in the temple of essence.

Day by day,

Old whirlpools fade,

The endless circles.

You have permission to roam,

To allow your attention to land where it will,

To open yourself to the essence of life.

Simply allow.

Allow for an inward journey through the landscape of your heart.

Allow yourself to feel everything that your body feels.

Nothing,

Not the smallest twinge in a muscle is insignificant,

Is unworthy of your attention.

Open yourself to all of you.

Not the you from yesterday.

Not the you whom tomorrow has yet to shape.

You here in this vivid now.

Print your own tracks along the banks of sluggish streams whose names you do not know and do not need to know.

Not the you from yesterday.

Not the you from tomorrow.

Not the you from yesterday.

Not the you from yesterday.

Not the you from yesterday.

If you find yourself wondering and that feels right,

Then wonder.

If your heart is leading,

Then you're on a good path.

Don't worry how much the path meanders.

If it doesn't feel right,

Then perhaps find your way back to a sense of wonder.

What is this world of possibilities in which you find yourself?

This world of potentialities?

This delight-filled universe?

Might you choose to explore it for a little while longer?

Might you continue to wonder?

To view all with a sense of wonder?

To refuse any other way of seeing?

Might you accept that the future is not written?

That potential exists?

And that you might make use of it?

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Open your heart to the wonder.

Our journeys in the real world are always just beginning.

Each inhale affords us an opportunity to begin anew,

To move beyond the past,

And to craft a new future.

Our imaginary journey for today is at its end.

But allow yourself the luxury of a slow return from your particular journey.

Allow yourself to bring back a sense of wonder.

Simply allow this world to enter back into your consciousness,

Sounds,

Touches.

If your eyes are closed,

Then allow for a gentle opening.

Welcome back to this world of wonder.
