Hey,
It's Davin.
Thanks for joining me in this sound meditation for letting go.
If you don't know me,
I'm a singer and a teacher and I'll be guiding our time together with my voice,
Both in spoken word and healing sounds.
You know,
One of the great challenges of being human is our proclivity to cling.
We love to hold tight with a white-knuckled grasp to whatever seems most important in any given moment.
Whether it be our feelings,
Our emotions,
Stories from our past or even things we've acquired or desire,
Clinging gives us a saccharine taste of power and control,
But it also manages to leave us with more worry and doubt and fear.
The thing is,
No singular event,
Story,
Feeling or object can define who we are.
We might know this in theory,
But it can be hard to believe in any given moment when our view narrows and we hold tight to our illusion of control.
A political conversation with your uncle?
Being cut off by another driver on the highway?
Your partner not noticing you took out the trash?
In any given moment,
These experiences can feel singularly definitive,
But isn't it good news that we are so much more?
We are a miraculous and complex network of experience and awareness,
All pointing toward an essential light,
A goodness within.
You my friend are bigger and brighter than any one story,
And your ability to live in the reassurance of this truth is something you can cultivate and enjoy.
This practice is an opportunity to do just that in two simple and repeatable steps.
Notice and let go.
Notice and let go.
Notice and let go.
So let's begin.
I'd like to invite you to find an easy seat or posture,
Settling into your body in its current state.
You can close your eyes or find a soft gaze low in the horizon.
Whether you are practicing in the comfort of your home or on a busy bus or train,
Simply bring your awareness to your body in the space and see if you can find any additional comfort.
Check in with your feet,
Your legs,
Your hips,
Your belly,
Your chest and your back,
Your shoulders,
Neck,
Your mouth and your jaw,
Corners of your eyes,
Every hair on the top of your head.
Now that you have established an awareness of your body in the space,
See if you can bring your attention to your breath.
You don't have to craft it or shape it in any special way,
But simply notice it is there.
There is an inhalation.
There is an exhalation.
And regardless of what thoughts arise,
What lists you start to make or where your mind wanders,
The breath and its inevitable consistency,
It can be a respite,
A safe place in which to return,
Home.
When you find your mind wandering,
You can rest easy in the power of this practice.
Your noticing is the hardest part,
But when you notice,
You have the opportunity to let go of whatever thought,
Feeling or emotion has taken hold.
Just say to yourself,
Let go and gently find your way back home to the breath.
You've got your mind wandering down a path so demanding.
To the moon Let go.
It may be that as you uncover yourself lost in thought or story,
Sensations arise in your body,
Tightness in your chest,
Squeezing of your eyes,
An increased rate of your heartbeat.
Isn't it wonderful that our body offers us this information?
Isn't it wonderful that we have awareness to notice?
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
If you find yourself quickly down the narrow path of thought,
This is not failure.
Don't be frustrated,
My friend.
You are doing so well simply by noticing.
And now that you have noticed,
You have the opportunity to let go,
To head back home to your breath.
Let go.
Let go.
Remember,
No one thought is worth the promise it offers.
No need to cling.
No need to linger.
Your truth is so much bigger.
So,
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes or expand your focus.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
