I'm a singer and a teacher,
And I'll be guiding this journey into deep rest using my voice both in word and sound.
Together we will use a powerful relaxation technique that will systematically lead you toward restoration and healing.
This may mean for wakeful rest or a deep sleep.
Either are welcome and depend on your intention.
While there is no right or wrong way to engage our time together,
It might be best experience lying down.
So if you're ready,
Go ahead and find yourself a safe and comfortable spot to rest and to receive.
While you're settling in,
I'd like to offer you just a few brief reminders.
First,
Despite the crafty ways in which your mind will try to convince you otherwise,
There is nowhere else to be right now.
You've made the courageous decision to be here,
So consider ways in which you can rest in the beauty of that.
Everything you need is right here,
Right now.
Second,
There is no need to keep track of time.
I will keep track of that for you.
When the sound of the recording stops,
You can move on to whatever is next in life or simply continue to sleep.
It's rare that we don't have to consider the time,
So enjoy this.
Third,
You have spent a lifetime setting yourself up with safety and care.
Now is no exception.
You have chosen a space and a place for this practice that will help you facilitate deep rest.
If your inclination is to be on guard,
I'd encourage you to just trust in your highly developed ability to remain safe and secure.
All is well.
Finally,
You deserve this time,
This practice,
And all the possibility of rest and healing that comes with it.
You do so much for so many others,
And now is your time to receive.
This is not something you've earned,
But rather it is your birthright waiting to be reclaimed.
Now is the time to rest in the goodness of you,
To receive the reminder of the beauty of who you are.
So with that in mind,
Let's begin our time together.
Now that you've set yourself up for maximum comfort,
Feel free to make any additional adjustments.
Do a quick scan of the body and note any areas that feel uncomfortable or uneasy,
Simply by making a small movement to allow yourself the possibility of deep rest,
Deep relaxation.
Now that you've really settled in,
Go ahead and bring your awareness to your breath and shape it ever so slightly by taking in a deeper inhalation through your nose and exhalation through your mouth.
Once again,
An inhalation through your nose and an exhalation through your mouth.
And one last time,
Extending both the inhalation and the exhalation,
Breathe in and breathe out.
Feeling the additional ease and comfort that this breath naturally brings to your body.
Remember ease and comfort is not something for you to do right now.
There's nothing to do.
This ease and this comfort is something you can uncover and return to by simply noticing the ever present breath.
And in so doing,
You will return to your body,
Your miraculous body that so expertly carries you throughout your life.
In both hard times and good,
This body has done so much for you and your return to it is an honoring of your whole self,
The whole of who you are.
