This is a meditation that honors the child that lives within you,
The younger version of yourself that still requires your love,
Empathy,
Support,
And understanding.
In this meditation,
I will invite you to call on this inner child,
Speak to them,
And hold space for their needs.
As we grow in our age,
We become aware of the many things that we needed as children.
Sometimes this is revealed when we enter into healing work.
Sometimes this is revealed when we have children of our own.
Sometimes this is revealed when we understand from an adult perspective that which we experienced as children.
Calling on this inner child and tending to them is a practice of healing.
It is a practice of warmth.
It is the space that we can be the adult to give a child what they need,
And that child is ourselves.
When we do inner child work,
At times it can bring up sadness,
Pain,
Or anger.
We want to continue to support these feelings with an ongoing healing practice that can cradle these emotions and support the needs that emerge.
Settle into a comfortable position.
Close your eyes and find the path of your breath.
Follow your breath as it moves in and out of your lungs,
Through your belly and chest,
Up your throat,
And in and out of your nose and mouth.
Your observation of your breath is here to create the space for your body to relax into this moment,
Taking your time to slow down the thoughts of your day and focus on this moment,
Your breath,
And your body.
As your body and mind continue to release,
Allow your breath to be steady and intentional.
Now imagine that you are looking up to the sky.
You see the vibrant blue of a sunny day and the wisps of clouds slowly meandering in the sky.
There is a slight breeze that you feel on your cheeks.
It is cool enough to create comfort in this moment and warm enough that it will not chill you.
You close your eyes to feel the sun on your face.
You feel a warmth that spreads down your body as you take in this sun.
When you open your eyes and look down,
You notice that you are sitting in a beautiful meadow.
The grass expands out,
Meeting the sky on one side and trees on another.
You look down at this grass and you see the thousands of flowers scattered across this meadow.
Their beauty is breathtaking and fills you with joy.
As you continue to observe this meadow,
You are full of the knowing that you are safe here.
You are allowed to just be.
As you sit with the breeze moving against you,
You look to your right and see a child.
They are sitting right next to you.
Looking at the flowers,
Feeling the sun on their back.
As you observe this child,
You realize that this child is you.
Pause in this moment.
What does your heart feel when you see this child?
You acknowledge this child that has moved closer to you.
You greet them with a smile as they look into your eyes and you share a moment of recognition and understanding.
You hold their gaze as their needs move into you.
What are the messages that this child is needing to hear?
Focus on those messages.
Perhaps they are rooted in love.
Perhaps they are rooted in being enough.
Perhaps they are rooted in releasing responsibility for what was not yours to hold.
Now,
Allow this child to lead you.
Does your child wanting to play frolic in the meadow stay next to you quietly?
Does your child climb into your lap to be held?
Hold space here for this time to be present with your child,
Meeting their need of connection and closeness.
Your child's cells can be full of wonder and play,
Full of a strong need to be soothed,
Full of the need for love.
As you are holding space,
You are filled with the understanding of your own worth.
You feel the words of,
I am worthy.
I am enough.
I am strong.
I am capable.
I am amazing.
Swirl around you as if they are a part of the breeze.
The words are gentle,
But as they brush against you,
You and your child become full of the knowing that these words are real.
Continue your breath as you and your child self spend time together in this moment,
Feeling the grounded energy of this meadow,
Feeling the protection that you can give to your child self.
As you become rooted in what your child is needing,
You close your eyes and lift your face up to the sky again,
Allowing the warmth of the sun to mingle with the soft breeze in the air.
Breathe here.
You can feel that it is just you now.
You allow your hand to gently brush the grass and flowers as you move it back and forth.
You take a few deep breaths in and out,
Allowing yourself to center in this moment.
When you are ready,
You open your eyes and you have returned to your space,
But this time you are carrying that child with you in the form of love and support.
You have connected with them and they will remain with you as you move through your days so that you may continue to heap the love and understanding that they need,
That you need.
